Sometimes something is so perfect that you wish there would have been at least one flaw. A flaw, which you would have pointed, discussed, reiterated and felt great about. But people are growing and they check themselves before someone else's checks them. They learn from others mistake and do a 'zero-error' job because they know that off late world (read audience) has become completely non-tolerant. They love to rip anything and everything apart. Even if it’s an art form like cinema with no fixed rules of making the perfect film.
With 'Kai po che', Director Abhishek Kapoor has proved yet again that his journey as a director might have just started but it makes up in depth what it lacks in length. He has a strong hold on his art. Which reflects in all areas of the film i.e. tight screenplay, performances, crisp editing and music of the film.
'Kai po che' is a story about friendship, which I strongly believe will never go out of fashion whether its life or films. It’s a story about three friends (Ishaan, Omi, Govind) and what happens when they start the journey together to make their destinies. Destinies that is completely different from one another. (No point revealing the whole story because it’s worth seeing at least twice)
Well I am sure with the great box office opening that it had 'Kai po che' is very well received by the 'janta' but I would want to personally recommend it to couple of audience who are also the part of the industry.
'Screenplay writers' - the new writers as well as the old one's who have not done anything new in a while should not miss the film. They can take it up as a workshop and learn how to write a good screenplay without getting indulgent. Without sticking to the cliché’s of "abb to gaana aana chahiye" .. "ek Item song toh must hai" .. "Nahi nahi .. Audience ko love story to mangta hai" types. This was the first time that as an audience I wanted to indulge in couple of sequences in the film but they were over before I thought; which is good. The credit goes to the writer (Pubali Chaudhari, Supratik Sen, Abhishek kapoor and Chetan bhagat) for adapting a book with fresh perspective.
Another set of audience whom I would suggest not to miss the film, are actors. I would rather use the word performers who can sure learn from the performances all the actors have delivered. Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh both have proven their forte as an actor on television. Raj Kumar Yadav of Ragini MMS, Shaitan and LSD fame, needs no introduction either. But I am not sure if I saw them in the film. I saw Ishan, Omi and Govind; three friends playing their part beyond conviction. Where television actors are pulled down for being loud and melodramatic Sushant and Amit surprised with their performance; especially in scenes where they spoke nothing. I can vouch they are here to stay. Raj Kumar on the other hand should not be discussed any further because I don't think we can sum up his talent with any one performace .. he reinvents and surprises me each time. Other supporting cast does the magic too.
Cinematography by Anay Goshwami, does justice to the story set-up and makes the film distinct from the glossy lot which we come across everyday. It makes the film glamorous in its own way. Music by Amit trivedi seamlessly travels through the film without standing out unnecessarily. Editing is crisp and doesn’t give you a yawn moment.
Over all 'Kai po che' is not a film you can watch and forget. You will wait for its DVD release to add another masterpiece to your collection. I surely will.
