The only one thing that makes me happy writing this review is that I'm 100% sure that my review cant be more boring or more dull than the show itself!
Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai :
The serial and its concept:
The show, aired on Sony Entertainment television, Mon – Thu 8.30pm(IST)
(Gawd Why on 4 days..Why prime time?!!!)
This is supposed to be India's first reality television show.
And it is not a dumb show where SIMPLE questions are asked and people take home booty or money changes hands!
But this is a show about choosing the one person you want to live your life with! Choosing the life partner, your soul mate.
Ladka (boy) Meets Ladki(girl) see each other, exchange thoughts, talk.. And then are at liberty to choose or reject each other.
Pretty much the same way as arranged marriages are done in India, the only difference being, usually this happens in the drawing room of the guys or girls home. Here it's on SATELLITE TELEVISION!
Oh boy! Some way to choose your partner - in front of a million people!
The Host
Hosted by None other thanMadhuri Dixit Aka Mrs.Nene. The Ek do Teen girl, who started her career with Abodh, which went largely unnoticed but shot into lime light with Tezzab and the record shattering dance number Ek Do Teen.. Then went on to be the Numero uno Bollywood Actress for a long time.
Why she had to do such a Junk thing on TV at the fag end of her career is just beyond me! Am sure she would have ran out of all options. Nonetheless, According to me she is the only Plus point this serial has.
More people(including me) would be watching this serial for her than for the would be couples.
Madhuri is at her Dazzling best wearing fantastic designer traditional Indian dresses and jewelry. Mrs.Nene still looks Awesome!
The Cast:
The Girl, with the ultimate power of choosing or rejecting a guy.
The boy, Three or four of them from whom the Lady will choose as her would be !
The parents or folks of both the Girl and the boy.
A brief profile of the girl and the guy is shown before each one comes on the stage. How all of them appear so normal and casual on the sets and when their introduction sequence is shot is very peculiar. None of them seem to be camera shy of any sorts.
The guy and the girl get introduced to each other and they set about talking and “Getting to know each other” as they are left alone on the sets. And then the folks go about talking and discussing the more important details of marriage and their family , the family customs and traditions if any and what is expected of the bride and groom to be in their own family.Madhuri Keeps shuttling in between them !
My views
I have had a love marriage, so never had the chance to do the Ladki dekho thing.
But, the concept of an arranged marriage itself has never seemed fully logical to me. Although, am fully aware of the fact that arranged marriages to do work!
My own parents , grand parents and good , great examples
This show is about getting an arranged marriage done with the whole world watching and even contesting as to who the girl will choose over whom to be “HER” would be hubby.
All this hullaboo about a very very personal thing as marriage seems very ODD to me.
AM I THE ONLY ONE? AM I STRANGE?
I suppose, even in a conventional arranged marriage when the girl and the guy meet, they just wont be their normal self. They would be a bit shy, apprehensive, bit confused and a whole lot of other things going thru their minds. Add to all this the pressure of facing the camera, Making yourself look someone you are not for the camera and the world to see. And of course the Aura of Madhuri Dixit, The guy and girl just cannot be comfortable .
Honestly if I happen to be one of the guys on the show, I would be peeping across the room a lot many more times to have a look at Madhuri!
Isn’t it possible that the guy or the girl is made to say or do something in a way that suits the camera?
What happens if the cameraman needs to cut! And the couple is in the midst of discussing something they feel is very important, do they start all over again.
Don’t they feel distracted with a camera, cameraman, and a dozen other eyes of the studio crew peeping at them?
Where on earth is the privacy that they ought to have, or do these would be couples don’t need privacy to discuss and talk about certain things.
Is the couple under undue pressure to come out with their “Decisions” to meet
the shows telecast schedules and deadlines?
Honestly, I haven’t seen all the episodes of this show but whatever number I have seen were enough for me to cry out loud at the amount of trash that is being thrown at us in the name of entertainment.
In one of the episodes (Ref: Madlalyas review on this same topic) that I saw it was so obvious that one of the guys was playing for the gallery, being over bold and enthusiastic. What was he trying to do here? Get himself a role in one of the many melodramatic tele serials out Ekta kapoor shells out for us?
To conclude, this serial conceptually does not seem right to me.
All of you have your own opinions. So I better keep my mouthshut!
P.S: Madhuri, if you happen to read this. I swear I haven’t got anything against you. Just against this show that you chose to host. You still are one of my favorites!
