It feels so nice to see movies without useless songs. Movies that make you feel “Kuch Accha dekha”. Finally there is a plot, a good story, tight direction and exceptional and natural performances. After Paan Singh, it was Kahani which I saw today afternoon.
Many say- watch this movie for Vidya’s ( Bidya ) performance however I would like to say that most of the performances were fantastic.
The movie begins with the opening shot of heavily pregnant Vidya coming of airport. The taxi guy manages to make her sit in his taxi and is surprised to learn that she wanted to go to police station instead of home or a hotel.
They reach police station through typical Kolkata roads and lanes. Surprisingly what we see in this movie is polite cops instead typical harsh and rude inspectors and hawaldaars.
Vidya has come to India to find her missing husband and she is surprised to find out that nobody has any clue of his whereabouts and many say that the person called Arnab Bagchi doesn’t exist at all. Shocked by this revelation Vidya decides to do this job alone. She finds a help in ASI Rana who is so much fascinated by the persona of Vidya that he helps her in all possible ways.
The story progresses with Viday trying to find clues, Meeting different people in different parts of Kolkata from the office where Arnab Bagchi was supposed to join to an old police informer and others. Interesting turn happens when Khan from intelligence bureau comes in to the picture.
Some shocking revelations happen which make Vidya even more determined to find Ashish Bagchi. With some spying, chases, computer hacking and comic sequences the movie manages to keep pace an interest level intact.
The best part of the movie was the climax. It becomes difficult to guess what’s going to happen next. Being a thriller novel reader, I managed to guess the end to an extent yet it was interesting to watch the whole sequence.
Watch the movie to experience the roller coaster ride of twists and turns and the climax.
As mentioned earlier, The plot, screenplay, direction, cinematography and dialogues are good.
I would like to mention a few specials performances:
Of course Vidya
ASI Rana
Lodge manager
IB Second in command Khan
The Contract Killer
Some interesting scenes were Police station, ASI Rana Opening lock like a thief, Vidya meeting Khan, Rana gifting sari to Vidya, Vidya hacking computer and stealing files from old office.
Conclusion:
This is a different movie and vidya has managed to pull the entire movie alone that to without songs.
I recommend this movies to those who love to watch suspense, thrillers and no nonsense movies. Masala movies and brainless comedy goers please keep away from this movie as this is not for you.
This is definitely not a movie for the masses however majority of sensible audience can relate to this movie.
I will give 3& half stars to this movie. This movie will not disappoint you. Go for it.
