There aren't too many young directors who would be able to pull off what Karan Johar has with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham - first roping in six of the biggest names in the Indian film industry and then getting assigned the biggest budget ever for an Indian film. He has allowed himself to dream big and been given the leeway to execute according to his whims. And in every frame of this family drama it shows - from helicopters and the pyramids of Egypt to the stately homes of England. He does it so the audience is not disappointed with their heroes or heroines but is provided with enough eye candy.
Much like the title, the film takes you on an emotional ride - taking you to a high of khushi with an energetic song to a low of gham with a sensitive moment thereafter. And you find yourself surprised by your moist eyes.Ultimately what Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham achieves, which many Hindi films fail to, is move you. To make you feel. To make you experience emotions with love And that's saying a lot.
