Yash Chopra s Kabhi Kabhi is an evergreen memory if we consider the music and the romantic https://lyrics. As a movie, Kabhi Kabhi comes a cropper, with a brilliant story conspicuous by its underdevelopment, misplaced focus and a bollywood style climax.

The story is about a poet Amit ( Bachan ) who is passionately in love with Pooja (Rakhee ) . While the couple dream about the ‘lived happily thereafter’ life together, fate has something else in store. Pooja gets married to Vijay ( Sashi Kapoor) , respecting the wishes of her parents. A heart broken Amit gives up poetry and attempts to pull his heart back through a marriage to Anjali ( Waheeda Rehman). Twenty years later, destiny brings them together through Vicky (Rishi Kapoor ). Vicky is the son of Pooja and Vijay. He falls in love with Pinky ( Neetu Singh) , who is Waheeda Rehman s daughter born before her wedding. How the ex lovers handle the situation and the new generation lovers unite forms the rest of the story

The movie presents some enchanting music and very romantic lyrics that every lover would dream of singing to his/her beloved. The story could have been presented far better with some innovative direction, but Yash fails miserably, sticking to the time tested bollywood way . The pain and paradox when the ex lovers meet after a long time has been underplayed and the climax is the worst of them all. The net result is that the movie resembles a spacious house with poorly done interior decoration – you just don t enjoy staying in it too much.

Amithabh is his usual genius and Sashi Kapoor excels in his role. Rishi and Neetu captivate the audience with their good looks and some pleasing songs. Rakhee does justice to her part , while Waheeda Rehman remains an under developed character. Some wonderful picturization of Shimla and Kashmir are refreshing to the mind. The song Kabhi Kabhi is sure to melt any lover and is perhaps Yash Chopra s most valuble gift to the viewers. Hats of to Sahir Ludhianvi , who is impressive with imaginative and passionate https://lyrics.

The attempt to add a commercial value perhaps killed the very essence of the movie. The chasing scene in the climax is plainly ridiculous and shows it has been added just for the sake of melodrama.

Comparison with Silsila is inevitable and in my opinion, Silsila is a diamond, while Kabhi Kabhi is junk jewellery with a gold electroplating. The best part of Kabhi Kabhi is the music and lyrics – so, my suggestion is that if you have the album, but haven t seen the movie, it is fine – you are not missing anything even mediocre, forget greatness. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but Kabhi Kabhi is just a great musical with a good story that was spoilt by some unimaginative screenplay and direction
