Funnily, the title of the movie is so apt-'Kaante' and it was actually a pain to watch the movie, completely unbearable and too painful!God only knows when will Bollywood directors stop getting inspired by all the Hollywood flicks? There is no movie which is not based on Hollywood movies and this one is no exception- it is very 'creatively inspired' by Quentin Tarantino's- Reservoir Dogs.
Six men- all of them over 40 years of age! plan to rob a bank which has a/cs of none other than LAPD. What a cheek! And what makes them think so- police does'nt need enough security for their own bank- so any easy target. They meet up in the holding cell and carefully chalk out their ingenious plan and decide since they cannot do anything straight, they might as well rob a bank! And since the police force is anyway after them, even if they don't do anything they might as well do this.Hey, it is the easiest way out to make money after the dotcom business!!
They plan to carry out the heist but the trust factor between the six is missing. They buy the arms and ammunition and do their trial runs of the on the building rooftops and bravo entire LA and LAPD is deaf! no one seem to hear. How authentic! The plan goes boom when they meet the police force outside the bank they looted, since they have an informer within their circle, who is no one else but Lucky Ali.
The dialogues and wisecracks uttered by Mahesh Manjerekar are have sexual overtones and sound yuck. All the guys wear designer clothes and they walk about as if in a fashion show!Their dress designer has tried to give them a cool image, classy robbers!
Women characters esp. Malaika Arora and Isha Koppikar in the movie are there only for the face value and item songs, can any one imagine firangs gyrating the in the night club, led by an Indian over hindi music? Since when have the night clubs in LA started having Indian babes? Rati Agnihotri was good as not being around- totally wasted. One can actually see an ageing Amitabh Bachchan in the movie- his age shows on his face esp. in closeups! Sanjay Dutt and Mahesh Manjrekar's off screen friendship can be seen here too and in some scenes it is so evident.Sunil Shetty is as usual, Kumar Gaurav and Lucky Ali- a nice change!
Sanjay Gupta tried hard not to make it a regular Mumbai kitsch but some loopholes make it a regular masala stuff- like when the guys are out of the bank, LAPD is not able to do anything and aim properly at anyone but our heroes are able to fire and kill cops like with much precision! After all how can the Indian heroes ever fail?
Film at couple of places is full of illogical things, but give them a break guys!- one can do anything in the name of 'artistic liberty'- then whether it is special effects, action sequence with the police and others...
So,you can possibly avoid the movie like plague, but if you are really keen go ahead and waste your money...
