Jolly L.L.B. is a crisp and refreshing treat. It's a to-the-point courtroom drama with the best of performances on a rather limited canvas by the lead cast.
While Arshad Warsi is aptly cast and Boman Irani gets into the skin of the character like no one else can in contemporary Bollywood, the show stealer is Saurabh Shukla, who simply outclasses every other performer around him. You can simply go to the cinema for him alone, though the screenplay is no less good either.
Sanjay Mishra in a cameo is outstanding while rest of the ensemble cast is good too like the director Subhash Kapoor's previous outing in Phas Gaye Re Obama. He should win enough hearts with this one to make us all wait for the 3rd installment of the Munna Bhai franchise pretty eagerly.
The technical department is not exemplary or anything but just make-do, be it soundtrack or cinematography or art. However the dialogues save the day and are simply kick-ass with the cheeky, in-your-face, at times sarcastic tit-bits about India's judiciary, police, rich and the poor alike that will make you chuckle at regular intervals.
You shouldn't miss this this week's surprise gift which turns out to be a pleasant one! 3.5 stars.
