Watching the most-awaited movie of the year in theatres was an unforgettable experience, with a great Bollywood thriller-action after a long time. Director Vasan Bala brings out one of Alia Bhatt’s best performances in Jigra, cementing her place amongst the finest actresses of today. Jigra is a story of a fierce sister, who devotes her life to rescuing her brother from a foreign jail for the crimes he did not commit. There is a perfect balance of action and emotions which makes this film a great watch in the theatres.

The Storyline:

What lengths would you go to save your brother who has a few days left in a foreign jail is the question Jigra asks. The first half is fast-paced and intense, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. Alia Bhatt completely transforms herself and becomes a fearless old sister, assuring her commitment to getting the job done. It is great to see a change with a sister running against time to save the brother instead of the other way around. After learning that her brother is wrongfully indicted, Satya(Alia Bhatt), takes it into her own hands, ideating and executing smart ideas to talk to her brother and find a way to get him out. There is no sub-plot and the film revolves around the brother-sister relationship and involves a realistic storyline.

What Works For The Film?

The dialogue delivery, script, and setting of the scenes transports you to a different place. The soundtrack is also very heavy and quick, building tension in difficult situations. The plot is very thoughtful and does not leave any loopholes. The second half has both great action and emotional scenes. Vedang Raina as Ankur is equally amazing. The storyline is more than just a prison-break script. We get to see the desperation and strengths of family bonds in a heartfelt way. If I were to write this plot from scratch, I would have imagined it the same way. All the scenes and the settings feel realistic and visually epic. The setting of a foreign jail is scary but beautiful. The climax is also impressive too, and it is hard to predict what will happen in the end.

Things to Watch Out For?

Apart from Vedang and Alia’s acting, the side characters play their part well. Most notable is Manoj Pawha, with his humor and emotional support side, which softens the intense scenes without overdoing the comedy. The background music is what makes this movie ten levels up. The editing and CGI are amazing. The songs are decent and carefully put into the scenes. The only complaint I had was the film was too slow and could have been more intense if it moved quickly. The best part is it doesn’t get too emotional or too action-packed and finds the right balance. Alia’s character arc and emotions of pain, courage, and resilience are the silver lining of this amazing film. I would definitely recommend watching this movie in the theatres!
