Remember these words from the song “Hero” by Miss Carey. Well better late than never. Jawan is here. Jawan is not cerebral. But it has Shahrukh. The director never forgot that, nor did he allow us to. Thank God for that. We got two Shahrukh Khan for the price of one ticket.
The elder Shahrukh gets all the claps and whistles. The swagger is unmistakably Bachhanesque and a joy to behold. The junior Shahrukh is painted with a Money Heist brush. The army of girls around him give able support. Nayantara(more) and Deepika(less) floats in and out as and when we need Vitamin D.
Atlee learnt his craft from Shankar. Jawan thus is like a testosterone filled homage to his mentor. The fast pace, the action set pieces, the clean editing, the rant against social injustice, all helped to set the tone of this massy film. Music is not its strongest point but the BGM and Raja Kumari will pump up the volume.
After a long time we have a Hindi movie which is unapologetic about its origin and intent. The ikigai of the movie is entertainment and let there be no doubt on the same. Watch Jawan because we want our Heroes to be back. We need them more than they need us.
