Indians NOT welcome in Jaipur. Review on Jaipur

Was in Jaipur with family for a short vacation, took the Mumbai-Jaipur Garib Rath Express, did not do any online booking for Hotel as almost all the "Budget" hotels quoted on various travel websites were infact luxury or semi luxury hotels targeting the foreign visitor.

We checked into Hotel Gayatri (MI Road) which is STRICLY a budget hotel with minimal facilities.Travelling within Jaipur can be quite a pain wherein we have to haggle with the rickshaw driver who charge as per their whims.

I wrote "Indians NOT welcome in Jaipur" coz thats the way this city and some of its people (who administer the hotels/restaurants/monuments) have developed themselves.Try searching for a good hotel to try decent Rajasthani Thali, and you get hotels like LMB, Rajdhani and Natraj which have a menu that burns deep in your pocket. Rajasthani Thali is priced at Rs.265 !

At the monuments that we visit, there is a clear sense of discrimination by the staff, at City Palace Jaipur the guards in their traditional attire wont even think twice before shooing a bunch of Indians asking to be photographed with them once they spot a foreigner approaching them !One of the guard posted at City Palace was so insensible, I overheard him calling an Indian Muslim family as Pakistanis..and that too on their face !The staff deployed inside the Museum display sheer arrogance, any query by any Indian tourist is simply ignored or replied in one word...

Whereas foreign tourists are guided even if they do not ask for it !A friendly advice to all propsective shoppers for traditional rajasthani stuff...AVOID the shops outside all the monuments....they will sell the stuff at nearly double the price.Do a bit of walking down bylanes the city markets, Ajmeri Gate, Johri bazar, Tripolia Bazar and Chandpole... You will find a good bargain out here :) Overall a good city, Good Monuments but somehow a feeling that We, the People of India are not welcome here :(Hope I am proved wrong on my next visit.
