Jadavpur university was a result of ''Swadeshi Movement''...from then on it has grown superbly to today's High-esteemed status. It is one of the top 5 universities in India(NAAC survey) and is considered as a centre of excellence for higher education. It has two campus. Main campus is in Jadavpur, Kolkata. And the second campus is in Salt Lake, Kolkata, WB.
I was a student of Power Plant engg. in JU and now working in Infosys. My review will be based on my personal experience with JU.
The courses in this university can be broadly categorised in three trades.
1. Engineering:
Offered courses:
Four-year (8-semester) AICTE-approved day courses in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Information Technology, Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Power Plant Engineering, Production Engineering and Printing Engineering, Pharmacy ,Architecture
Masters Degree is also offered in most of the courses. There is scope for Evening classes for working executives.
2.Arts:
Offered courses: Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bridge Course in Sanskrit, Bachelor of Library and Information Science, Bachelor of Education (Physical Education), Master of Arts (Day Course), Master of Arts (Evening Course), Master of Library & Information Science, Master of Education (Physical Education), Master of Philosophy .
3.Science:
Offered courses:
Chemistry,Geology,Mathematics,Physics
Admission: For Engg it is WBJEE For Science and Arts:Marks in +2 ,admission tests etc.
Library:Great Library in both the campus.
IT infrustructure:24x7 internet ,hardware and software support.
Alumni Network:We have regular reunions and alumni support.There is a yahoogroup through which alumni maintains its contact with the campus.
Cost of education:Highly subsidised,merit scholarships for poor students.
Research: Good network with industry. Both industrial and academic research go on in full swing.(ISIJU project was a pioneer in supercomputer research.
Campus Life and Romance: You have to experience it!!!
