Nafrat pass aane na de,
Mohabat door jaane na de!
With a tag line that says it all, Iss Pyaar ko kya naam doon is a TV serial that I am completely hooked on to right now! Aired on Star Plus on Mon - Fri at 8.00 PM, the show has caught on to the imaginations of many people and recently recorded a TRP of 4.4!
Meet Arnav Singh Raizadha (ASR) , a self made man who believes that he writes his own destiny, does not beleive in love but is forced to think on his ideaoligies when he crosses path with Khushi Kumari Gupta, a simple, fun loving girl who believes in love and Devi Mayya!
The story revolves around these two central characters falling in and out of love with each other, as they say opposites attract, utmost care is taken to portray these two characters in completely opposite light in every aspect that you can probably imagine.
One of the highlights of this serial is the pain taken in the characterization of the lead pair especially ASR's, he is hardly given any dialogues, speaks more with his eyes, is scared of admitting his feelings, has a special bond with his sister, doesn't not laugh or smile and has Diabetes!
In a recent scene he couldn't give the gift (bangles) he got for his love directly and he secretly kept it and waited for her to wear them! Little things like these make his character a bit human and not like the typical soap hero who has nothing to do but to marry and get divorced umpteen number of times.
While Khusi's character is heavily inspired from Kajol's character in Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham, be it the body language, her bond with her jiji or the mannerisms but hey! I am not complaining as its extremely entertaining!
The lead pair always manage to have these intense love-hate scenes which sometimes even last for a good 10 minutes which infact is what keeps the show going! Ad mist all this intense drama there is something very refreshing in this serial that is the comic angle that is always maintained be it Khushi's pranks or her filmy dialouges , or one of the character NK saying all the wrong Hindi words at the wrong time like 'Khushi ji ko josh (hosh) kyun nahi aa raha?" and "Naani ji khaana khake (khamha ka) parishaan ho rahi hogi!"
Coming to the most important point about the show and probably the most talked about too, is the amazing chemistry that the lead pair share and their ability to connect, you either are swooned by the magic they create on screen or are feeling terrible when they are not together.
Gone are the days when TV serials depicted the life of common man or the days of ridiculously dressed up women fighting with each other. Our humble TV has got a lot more bolder and Prime Time TV is not what you can watch with the family anymore!
For instance,
ASR : Tum woh har cheez nahi kar sakti jo mein kar sakta hoon
Khushi : Hum kar sakte hain
ASR : Tum kuch bhi kar sakti ho na toh chudalo apna duppata
Khushi: nahi hum
ASR: Jo mein karunga, kya tum kar sakogi?
Khushi: nods
ASR: Lagi Shart?
What happens next is truly left to your imagination ( if you haven't watched the show) or you can just check the frenzy this one scene has created on you tube with many versions of the same scene being posted and the views each video has garnered.
Small screen is definitely inspired from the big screen, as our movies have gone from bold to very bold, TV has got a revamp too! Directors are not scared to add in a bit of spice to keep everyone interested but for how long this trend is going to stay or is it here to stay?
Only time will tell but right now who would mind if a perfectly choreographed intimate dance sequence is added where our hero who has never danced in his life goes to the stage and starts lip syncing 'Teri Meri Prem Kahaani hain mushkil' because he couldn't see our heroin standing on the stage waiting for her 'female' partner Saritha ji!!
Or the one expression of ASR that is added to almost all the scenes in around 2-3 episodes or that he is always in his house and manages to run into Khushi all the time and no one in his house suspects it and he runs a business which is worth crores! Now, that's my definition of a SUPERMAN!
Khushi visited ASR's house for almost 6 months but was completely oblivious to that fact that she was engaged to Shaym, who is actually Anjali's husband (ASR's sister) and Shyam who is very lovingly called Snake on the internet tries to kill Anjali by throwing her into an electrified pool, putting a Scorpio on her bed, putting ether in her perfume and finally tries the filmy way of melding with the brakes and is still not successful!
What the makers of this show or any other serial don't realize is that in this time and age the audience has become smart, whether you like it or not! Firstly no one has the time or the patience to sit and watch bad editing or a stupid plot and certainly you cant just take us for a ride with what works all the time, audience can be fooled once or twice not always!
Eventually people are going to get bored of this Love-Hate track if there isn't anything new for us to see, some may not agree to this point of mine but I was shouting from rooftops at the time of KZK days that saas bahu dramas will eventually become obsolete!
My expectation as a viewer is something that blows my mind all the time, which certainly did happen in this show for the first few months, that is the only reason why this is the only serial I watch these days (After I stopped watching Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata hai) but I am worried that it will become one of those shows that I can sit and predict or laugh at the stupidity of the creative liberties taken!Either buck up and make it more interesting minus the stupid plots or end the show on a high! Don't drag it so much that viewers lose interest and stop watching the show!
In spite of the flaws Iss Pyaar ko kya naam doon is worth watching only for the fantastic performances put in by the entire star cast, the super humorous scenes put in between, intense drama between the lead pair and of course to spice up your evenings!
Right now I would certainly recommend it, watch it to relive your love story!
