The Poovar Island in Kerala is probably one of the most hot destinations in Trivandrum now. The picturesque surroundings makes Poovar Island the most favourite tourist destination in Kerala. It is about 32 kms away from Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum).
We visited Poovar in Dec 2003. It was actually a trip arranged for the employees and their families by the organization I am working in. So it was a totally sponsored event, which was managed very well by the administration team! The company had booked for an entire bogie for the travel from Pune to Trivandrum. We stayed at the Isola Di Coco Resort.
The place to relax
The resort is named after the coconut-fringed lanes surrounding the resort. The term Isola Di Coco means Island of Coconuts.It is almost an island as it is surrounded by the Poovar River. You have to take a boat, cross the river and reach the beach! Hmm, but it also has its beauty of its own.
As you enter the resort, you feel that you have stepped into the laps of nature. There is water water everywhere and lots to drink too. It is the place to go if you want to one with the nature, sit back and relax!
The open-air restaurant which offers the dining facilities, also offers splendid views of the Arabian Sea. You get wonderful fresh seafood.
Accommodation
Many of the rooms face the ocean giving a fantastic sea-view. The rooms are divided into three categories depending on the facilities: Standard rooms, Heritage rooms, and Suite rooms. The standard rooms are the modern ones with oen-suite bathrooms. Heritage rooms are made in the old traditional Kerala houses whereas the Suite rooms are having a sit-out, living room and bedroom. There are rooms that had open top toilet. We all were so excited, that we actually made a beeline to see those toilets.
Boating through the narrow water canals is the best way to enjoy the nature. You can also take a lazy stroll in the garden. They organize great beach parties too. I enjoyed the visit to Isola Di Coco Resort.
