If you are reading this review (which you are, otherwise you wouldn't read this... er.. anyway), and thinking this is gonna be a 2 page tourist brochure for Iraq or why you should or shouldn't go there, then you are wrong. This is not even a ''yes'' or ''no''- case-for-war rambling either. I am not pretending to be a historian, archaeologist, geologist, or any such species neither do I have any inclinations towards political parties, groups etc. At this stage I couldn't care less about war or peace. I know I could never start a war , neither could I bring peace to the world on my own (huh..I say on my own but almost the whole world tried to avoid the war on Iraq and they didn't succeed). No matter how many of these peace protesters are gonna run around with those placards and try causing traffic jams it won't affect the final outcome. Sooner or later all the governments are gonna suck up to America anyway. If Saddam doesn't respect the UN mandate the UN imposes embargoes for years as a result of which millions of Iraqi children suffer. If President Bush and his warmongers invade Iraq against the wishes of UN, forget sanctions, people raise concerns but nobody dares to do a thing. Anyway I have solved this little puzzle for myself. That’s the way the world's gonna work, at least at the moment, and nobody is gonna be able to do damn thing about it
I am here to look at the lighter side of all this.
WMD
Was this supposed to be a joke? Where are these dreaded weapons of destruction? Weren't they supposed to be ready to be delivered within 45 minutes? I mean Tony Blair is facing the music for this right now but I doubt anyone would have put him up for this if not the tragic death of Dr. Kelly.
Every time I hear the evening news I expect a new story, a new excuse. So much so that its not even funny anymore. First we were made to believe that Iraq has deadly weapons and Saddam is really itching to use them. Hmmm... didn't really work out. No weapons found so far ! The story changes again. Saddam is harboring terrorists. Hmmm.. you gotta come up with something better guys, forget the common people even people within your own governments don't believe that. Remember, the most dreaded terrorist organization actually tried to kill Saddam once. Here's one country, which although ruled by a dictator, had totally curbed any sort of religious fanaticism (the kind which actually gives rise to terrorism). Also remember how Iraq was actually used (my enemy's enemy is my friend) to counter this in its war against Iran. Hence this didn't work out either. So finally the story changes to the following Saddam is a dictator and we want regime change. Yeah... whatever. Didn't think of regime change for 12 years but now seems to be the right time. People's attention needs to be diverted somehow doesn't it. When you are fighting an enemy you can't see you choose someone you can even though he might not be the right candidate for it.
But anyway... coming back to WMD.
Rumsfield:''Saddam is hiding WMD in his home town. ''
after some time
Rumsfield: ''Saddam is hiding WMD in his palaces''. --- I cant stop laughing
after some time
Rumsfield: ''Saddam is hiding WMD in mobile vans'' --- What ???
American forces are within 1 mile of Baghdad. ''Saddam does not want to use WMD because that would expose him to the world''. O yeah! the poor guy would be bombed to death anytime now but he REALLY cares what the world would think of him at this point.
And then something which had me in fits of laughter for hours . ''There's looting going on in Baghdad . Someone could have stolen the WMDs'' That was Donald Rumsfield at his imaginative best. Only he could have thought of that.
But you don't know the real story do you? We are being harsh on Mr Bush. When he says WMD he doesn't mean Weapons of mass destruction, he perhaps means Weapons of Mass Deception. Sure ..... Saddam did have these elusive WMD.
The Chaos
The chaos which this ''liberating'' invasion has brought about in Iraq was unimaginable. Right now both the Americans and the British (and a couple of ''dozen'' other soldiers of the ''alliance'') are thinking that they have freed the Iraqi people.
Imagine a General entering some Iraqi village. ''Guys maybe you didn't notice something , but YOU NEED FREEDOM. and we are gonna give it to u By God. !'' The people who are laying ambushes and organizing suicide attacks think they are liberating Iraq too. Something tells me that at some point most of the world is gonna need ''liberating''.
But guys guys guys. Your are missing the final point here.
Everyone wants to make Iraq safe. As president Bush would have said ''Eye rack (Iraq) is finally safe'' (oil wells are safe now).
Iraqi liberation groups ''Iraq is finally safe '' (for looting).
Either way IRAQ IS FINALLY SAFE.
