Dare to Dream and to Dream Big!
If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again. For there is a lot more to life, than existing like a vegetable…
Iqbal is one such movie about dreaming big and making your dreams come true. It’s a film about overcoming obstacles, being perseverant and coming out triumphs in the face of all kinds of adversity.
Iqbal(Shreyas Talpade) is a deaf & dumb guy who is passionate about cricket(fast bowling precisely) and aspires to play for the Indian team one day. His father(Yatin Karyekar), who is a poor farmer, is dead against it and wants him to work in the fields with him. There are difficulties galore, in his way, but he overcomes each one of them with the support of his mother(Prateeksha Lonkar), sister(Shweta Prasad), coach(Naseeruddin Shah) and above all his stubbornness to succeed.
Ever wondered when do we fail? **We don’t fail when we set our dreams too high and struggle to make them come true. But we fail, when we set our aims too low and we actually succeed in achieving them.
*For me, the film always manages to touch a swollen nerve, simply because I can relate to it at an incredibly personal level. It wasn’t long ago that I wanted to be a fast bowler and nurtured dreams of wearing that sky blue uniform, with hundred million Indians cheering for me. I used to bowl alone for hours & hours(I still do sometimes), be it the gentle morning breeze or the scorching afternoon heat. But well, my parents just didn’t budge to my pleas of sending me to the cricket academy. “It would affect your studies”, they said.
I still remember their refusal year after year. I was in 8th class when my mother had promised to let me go for practice daily once my exams finish, but then backed out because I got 60 marks in History and not 80. I can still feel that heartbreak which I felt that moment, it’s still very much alive…
When few days back, she was cleaning the cupboard and found my school mark sheets, she asked me if it’s fine to dispose them as we don’t really need them anymore. I wanted to question her judgment of making me sacrifice the game for studies, but instead just chose to leave the room silently. For I believe the fault was with me, that I acted obedient and didn’t do anything drastic like Iqbal did, which could help the Universe to conspire in my favour.
For the record, not playing cricket didn’t make me a genius student. I was above average from the start and that’s what I remained till the very end. Lesson learnt for life … Don't let anyone steal your dream. It's your dream, not theirs.
People would be there always, trying to bring you down to their own level of mediocrity. But eventually it’s up to you to filter out all the negativity and move towards your goal with an unshakeable optimism & focus as precise as Arjun’s aim of the bird’s eye.
I dedicate this review to M/s ITS(ms id - itikasharma), who dared to dream and has taken the first big step towards realizing it today. It wasn’t easy for her. She stumbled on the way like we all do. She was down but never out. The hard work has finally paid off. The sweat, the tears, the effort, the worries, the burnt midnight lamp oil didn’t go waste …they never do.
I’ll end the review by wishing her success, courage and happiness on the chosen path.
