I live in Thane and wanted to test an alternative to the old cable operator. Did not want to go in for a DTH setup, since I did not want to take additional headache of maintaining dish. Who knows someday the dish would rotate due to heavy winds and we have to readjust, like we did for the antennas before cable TVs were introduced.
I being a satisfied customer of MTNL decided to get myself it's IP TV. I opted for IP TV because of it's low entry charges(Rs. 1, 000/- refundable deposit) and choice of 100 channels(some of them regional). IPTV got installed in about 2 hours after a wait of 3 months after booking. The technician who came to install was not aware how it could have taken so long. Maybe there is some gap in the process that the Company needs to take care of.
As an average indian family, my family did not miss on any of the preferred channels may it be daily soaps, sports, news etc. Set top box takes some time to initialize(< 2 mins). Sometimes there is some signal congestion but tolerable(unless it happens during a replay of Sachin getting bowled).
Movies on demand is again a good feature and to top it, they are free at this point of time. There are a few channels and movies where audio tracks cannot be heard.
All this at Rs. 100/- per month. I think IPTV is great.
