Equity Debt Inflation Market shares/size Insider trading JV Q2 results Brand repositioning...

Now then by the time you read the last one in the list, you must have jumped the gun and concluded that MBA as a course has made me give away my mental faculties and I should be directed towards the next Richard Gere sponsored trip to Himalayas.

Thankfully, I have not yet broken that weak link to sanity and I started the review this way because the website on which I am going to talk about does a wonderful job of staying away from jargon and focuses on doling out information about the India Inc which is easily comprehensible to anyone and everyone. You might ask me why I chose to write on this right now.

As a matter of fact, I have visited lots of websites in the past few days for want of adequate information about the Q2 results just declared by so many blue chip companies and my views about this website have changed over a period of time. I just wanted to warn others before they think of relying completely on the facts furnished there.

The first time I felt the need to visit this site was when I was doing my engineering and preparing for MBA entrance exams. Right then, the idea embedded into my mind unfortunately was to learn more and more about brand icons such as Harley Davidson and Coke but never ever did I venture out to read about how different Indian scenario is as comp. to the developed world.

This website does a wonderful job of giving you how various sectors are performing and some interesting pointers on where they need to catch up.

Now then, before you assume that this is THE source of all the relevant information on business, let me enlighten you with the flaws which plague this site. Earlier by which I mean the period when such websites which give you business info were few, it was considered rather insightful when there is a sector report posted or live tickers there or good old company quarterly reports being flashed on the screens.

You thought the advent of internet has made life so much more convenient and updated?(Wait a minute did I say updated??) information has ensured your staying ahead. Well though its true that now a days, people ? be it investors, corporate community and management students can get information in a matter of seconds, this website seems to have done a lousy job of updating their facts.

Picture this. I come back from my class, frantically looking for the market size/shares figures for FMCG/ players and since https://indiainfoline.com used to be one of my fav. links at one point of time, I rush to the section to get the numbers confirmed and I get the required data. So far so good. The problem starts when these numbers seem to be wrong and you go back to recheck only to realize that the data quoted is that of 2000 when its 2004 numbers that you are looking for.

Similarly, recent mergers and acquisitions, brand relaunches are not included and it takes a long time for it to be updated. When it?s a website catering to the needs of people on the move, you cannot afford to be so lackadaisical in your approach.

Secondly, if they do have updated info on anything, the link is there but it needs to be purchased and you just get a preview on the relevant stuff. Ok I am not contesting they wanting to sell research data for after all they need to post sustainable profits for themselves but they would do well to update the sections free for all as well.

Having said this, let me now point out some of the really useful stuff that?s there on this website,

1) Industry research and product overview of certain sectors such as insurance and

mutual funds.

2) Policy regulations of TRAI, SEBI etc. have been explained in very simple terms.

3) Very useful articles on Indian economy in general- ?Economy Probe?.

In a nutshell, if you want to update yourself with no specifics and general info, its an excellent site but if you are looking for specific information about any particular topic, you would do well to reconfirm the facts given by visiting a couple of other websites.

Those who have read my review till this point without concluding that it?s a saga by a disgruntled management student who did not submit her assignments on time and is putting the blame on a poor innocent website for it, let me tell you give you the list of the websites which I have found very useful-
