Imsai Arasan.. is one of those rare gems..i would say.. Vadivelu made a wonderful job.. Casting is just made for vadivelu.. I should say..
Simbudevan, a cartoonist had a wonderful vision on this movie.. good screenplay with few flaws...
wonderful starting.. Pulikesi and Ukraputhan, two characters played very well by vadivelu. pulikesi turned out to be a real comic king with no thoughts of his own, whereas ukraputhan is quite intelligent however it is not shown how he can be considered intelligent and matured, can be made out only by his serious face..very good facial expressions.. uncle rajaguru played by nasar.. done his job very well.
story is very simple.. a comic king played like a puppet in uncle rajaguru's hands, sincerely obey's the british .. in one point of time.. ukraputhan who is a nalanada university return turned extremists and fight for the kingdom against british, by swapping places with bro and bring back the kingdom under his control.
but the bottom line of this movie is "COMEDY" which was handled in a very decent manner.. casanova pulikesi is extremely good. the dialogue delivery is still amateaur but the timings are much much appreciated. on the other hand ukraputhan is quite serious and romantic..
Diretor decided to bring up, pepsi and coco cola issues in a very diplomatic and humourous way like kabsi and akkacola respectively. and the product endorsed by drama actors and sportspersons. given a very decent thought about little of communism. and the amphitheatre for caste and religious fights were simply hilarious. Infact the story might be 225 yrs old, but it reflects the current political scenario which we need to accept the bitter truth.
On the whole the movie was well made and truly practical in sense.. I would rate this movie as 4 out of 5.
