MR no: 1192877. My son was suggested to undergo a few diagnostic tests at ILS Hospital Dum Dum. The charges of these tests are inflated to unimaginable levels. These tests can be done outside at any NABL accredited diagnostic centre at one third to one fifth of the total billed amount at ILS Dum Dum hospital. When we enquired about the costs at the 1st floor billing counter, we were not given any information.
When ILS Hospital proudly make open claims that every patient has right to information, they should say it like they actually mean it. Not disclosing critical information or giving evasive answers is unprofessional, unacceptable and a criminal offence.
Your billing desk executive refrained from divulging important, relevant and crucial information and told us to proceed to the sample collection room on the 1st floor. We asked multiple times regarding the cost of doing those tests, but he advertently refused to pass on the cost estimate information to us and compelled us to give the blood sample to the phlebotomist.
How dare does he do that? As a customer I have every right to know what i'm paying for. It is gravely shameful and an abomination for a hospital like ILS Dum Dum to indulge in such nefarious and unscrupulous business practices as a direct violation of ethics and moral values. This is a matter of great disgrace for such hospitals like ILS Dum Dum to overcharge patient’s up to 5 times the market rates.
Although it is a common practice for private health care sectors these days to overcharge patients to 3-5 times the market rate of diagnostic tests but it appalls me to see that ILS Dum Dum was also one of them in the league.
Long story short, we ended up paying almost Rs 9000 for the below tests:
ILS Dum Dum diagnostic charges:
C-Reactive Protein(Quantitative) Rs. 1000
Complete Blood Count(CBC) Rs. 480
Dengue NS1 Antigen(Elisa, Serum) Rs. 2300
Double Malaria Antigen(P.Vivax/P.Falciparum) Rs. 1350
Liver Function Test(LFT) Rs. 1500
Malaria Parasite Rs. 180
Serum Potassium Rs. 450
Serum Sodium Rs. 450
Typhoid IgM Serum Rs. 940
Total Rs. 8620

Aren't they ashamed of extracting money by unlawful means from patients and their families?
Does it not appeal to their conscience or are they just another private hospital around the corner seeking ways to empty our pockets?
Shame on them and their money making indulgences by cheating patients by way of spiraling charges that are imposed on them either via treatment provided or inflated bills made against services provided that are unjustifiable, unfounded and trumped-up in every manner of claims made by this hospital.
Their enterprise is a classic example of a money making racket which is reminiscent of most private corporate hospitals these days.
