I was planning for a new Life Insurance policy for me, so I called up ICICI Prudential at their help desk asked for the information about their products on life insurance. They said either I can have advisor to visit my home or they can send the complete information brochure to me by courier. I opted the second option. Well 15 days past no correspondence. Then I again called up the ICICI, they checked their account and said will send me another. After another 10 days I received one, at last. To my surprise it was very thin envelop. Just two hand bills for information covering all the products on life insurance. What all did those two brochures have and what should they have.
The First Brochure,
The information about the company. Well you should be informed enough to know about these two groups, because they do not think that they need to mention about their financial background and assets. According to them Prudential plc of UK is the finest insurance company in the world. But, no references given in Boucher to support their statement.
Policies
They mention four policies to choose from. Under policy information just two lines are written to explain everything about respective scheme. No mention of Minimum or maximum age. No mention of Minimum or maximum sum assured. No mention of policy terms, again they think naming them is enough for us to understand what would they look like. If they have separate brochure for different policies, why they didn't send that.
Use of Abbreviations
They mention several abbreviations below each policy description. I do not understand are they of any use to us, or are just codes. No index has been made to explain these abbreviations.
The second one
When I opened the second one for the first sight I thought I have picked up the Pizza menu of some fast food chain telling me about different prices for toppings. It mentions add-ons. They call them riders; Make sure they are not taking you to ride. These add-ons vary from 70 paise per day to 167 paise per day. The best part of this brochure on add-ons is they end up with description by adding “etc”. So again saying 9 critical illness but writing only 4 with big “etc”. Saying 43 Major Surgical illnesses but mentioning only 4 and big “etc”.
Brochure is the face of any good company it should give the clear image of products in detail. More over a company looking for clients investing in life insurance shouldn’t use such reckless behaviors. They fail to create impression with their brochures.
