I am sure you must have seen ICICI Lombard advertisements showing how some Mr. X or Mrs. Y saved x% or y% in car insurance premium just because they did insurance online.
My request to you is not to fall for such fraudulent advertisements / claims by ICICI Lombard. What I have experienced is that customers are taken for a ride when they insure through online portal.
For last 2-3 years, I have been insuring my 2-wheeler through ICICI Lombard's Authorized agents - Reliance Fresh. When I first started, my previous(United India) policy had expired and they(United India) had a very bad, cumbersome process, to do insurance again. So, when I had approached Reliance Fresh, they did it without hassles(though premium was higher than Govt Insurance Companies).
This year, when I approached Reliance Fresh to renew the insurance, I found out that their terminal was not allowing insurance for 10 year old vehicle. The insurance desk modified the registration date by 1-2 months and it showed a premium of Rs.701. However, I told them that it is not right to put wrong registration date(as these private insurance companies are known to decline claims for very minor reasons also - like a small mistake in name or address, etc.)
Since it was last date and Sunday, I renewed it online at ICICI Lombard's website. To my shock, the premium charged by Rs.835(Rs.104 more than what Reliance had quoted, and almost Rs.200 more than previous year premium). In the last 2-3 years, even though the IDV value of the vehicle decreased, ICICI Lombard was quoting up-to Rs.200 more premium every year of renewal.
In my opinion, the ICICI Lombard Insurance Company is looting customers in the name of convenience. If you have time, you must explore govt / GIC companies(like New India, United India, etc.)
Another complaint that I have against these people is that they don't listen to customers. Some fool had quoted my email id for his health insurance policy and these people have flooded me with emails(including sending sensitive data like ID details, policy details, etc.) My repeated attempts to tell these people to remove my email id from their system for other person's health insurance policy had no impact(these fools ask the same question every time and at the end of 10-15 minutes of discussion, they draw a complete blank, with no understanding of the problem).
