I went to open an account with them. I wanted to invest in shares of US companies.
First, they sent me from one office branch to another. This was especially a pain because ICICI office addresses are incredibly difficult to locate on Google Maps (I don't know why).
When I reached the final branch, all the employees that I talked to started asking me personal questions, which don't have anything to do with opening an account, like in which company do I work, what's my salary, etc. They were more interested in my personal life than anything else, and the disappointment was written large on their foreheads that people like me existed who could afford to buy American stocks. The final guy I spoke to was also asking these silly questions, and finally promised to give me a callback the next day, but never called back. He looked truly heartbroken by the time I left.
Most of these people working in such brokerages are low salaried workers who are emotionally insecure and probably even looking to use your personal info against you for their own gains, rather than focusing on the only responsibilty that they have, that is to provide you a satisfactory level of financial services.
ICICI is becoming like a place where all unemployed people sit around and do nothing but feel low about their own lives all day long and try to find some way to make a quick buck from you.
