Hutch ( Hutchison Essar ) and now Vodaphone ( Vodaphone Essar ) is a decent service provider of mobile service under GSM. They have been in India thru buyouts and so my service provider in Kolkata is the oldest player in the country since 1995 when Modi ( now Airtel ) laucnhed its service here. Their billing is almost errorless. Their service is good.
Their customer support is good, Their network coverage is generally good all over the country except that they have not reached a few states so the GPRS stops working in those places while the roaming still works on other service providers networ. They are the 4th largest mobile player in the country as on date. Vodaphoen who bought out Hutch recently and is now partnering with Essar to continue its service claims that in 3 years they will make it the largest player in mobiles in the country.
I wont be surprised at that because Vodaphone has ahost of mobile handsets which they can launch in India bundled with the connection. I look forward to this new revolution which will make compatitors better their own service and also Hutch ( Vodaphone ) will further improve its own service.
