A breath of Fresh Air... Review on Huqa Pani - Ali Zafar

This review is on one of the latest Indi-Pop Albums doing the rounds on almost all the Music Channels these days, named “Huqa Pani” by a young and charming Pakistani Actor turned Singer named Ali Zafar.

I really liked the first Music Video “Rangeen” and then I bought his album and believe me I was not at all disappointed. He has joined the likes of Junoon, Jal and Strings who have really been very popular Music Groups of Pakistan in India.

Besides singing, Zafar, who has done his graduation from Pakistan’s National College of Arts, dabbles in painting, modelling and acting. He won the best actor award for his role in the TV serial Kaanch Keh Per. (Information from his Website https://alizafar.net)

One thing which struck me the first time I heard Ali Zafar`s voice was that his vocals are quite close to the Great Kishore Kumar’s. I don’t know whether it is intentional or not. I don’t know how many of you would agree to this, but this is my opinion. But his voice is very fresh for sure.

So now straight to the album’s amazing songs…

Chal Dil Mere: This is my favourite Song of the Album, the lyrics are extremely well written and I can relate this song to my life very easily. The Guitar Chords in the song are also very good. The video of this song is well made and is quite funny, and Ali Zafar looks quite smashing in the video. I am sure most of you must have seen this video.

Channo: An above average song with dabs of Punjabi Lyrics thrown in to make it peppy, the video also came out but didn’t create the expected impact.

Dekha Sung Terey: This song is a perfect Kishore Kumar song and would compel you to think that this guy is surely inspired by the greatest of them all, but still this song is pretty soothing to hear.

Din Doobey: Another mellow song whose lyrics go like this… “Din doobey jab shaam jawaan ho, Ajnabi sa koi sama ho, Jaunga main kis gali mein….koi jo pooche jo tum kahan ho….”. This song also proves the mettle of this young singer.

Ek Pal: This is the latest song whose Music Video has been launched…And this song has a very earthy feel to it which would make you hear this song more and more. And Ali Zafar looks quite different in the video as well.

Huqa Pani: The title song of the album rocks for sure with great https://lyrics. It goes like this “Ankh jaddo bhi ladi tere nall koi poochda bhi naiyon mera haal…ki Huqa Paani band ho gaya”. I am sure this song would become a big hit once the Video is released. Actually the word “Huqa Paani” has never been used ever in any Indi-Pop song and that’s the reason this song has freshness attached to it.

Ishq: For me this is the worst song of the album…but still I got my money worth after listening to 9 good songs so can skip this and this is the last song of Side A so easy to forward as well…This song is neither slow nor fast and the mix of Punjabi and Urdu Lyrics can’t hold a listener’s attention for long.

Jugnuon: A soft and mellow number that is brilliantly written as well, with very soothing music. This song proves that Ali Zafar is a complete singer and can sing both fast and slow songs to perfection.

Rangeen: This was the song whose Music Video was released first and had a totally different video with a retro look. The Urdu Lyrics also make the song meaningful as well.

Teri Yaad Aayi

Ali Zafar has composed and written four songs of the album: Rangeen, Channo, Ishq and Ek Pal.

I am sure his prowess would be proved after he releases his second album and hopefully he doesn’t fizzle out as a One-Album Wonder…

So if you are looking for some Fresh Music and want a much-needed break from the awful Trash of Remixes then Huqa Pani is surely meant for all of you.
