Hungama is the third comedy attempt after Hera Pheri and Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar made by Priyadarshan. Hungama is nothing new for South Indian viewers it is as usual a remake of one of the older hits of Priyadarshan.
Hungama deals with the following plots.
Two people who have run away from home Nandu to make a career in singing and Anjali to escape from getting married to the zamindar's mentally challenged son Raja. Both are in look out for a decent accommodation. They come across a landlord who is ready to rent out his house only to married couples. Just for the sake of getting an accommodation they pose as married couples.
A miserly father who is not ready to shell out money to help his son Jeetu to start a business. Instead of helping his son the father asks his son to steal money for his business. End result son steals his own father's money and starts an electronic shop.
Jeetu's friend Anil who adopts an easier way of becoming rich by getting married to the daughter of a rich man (who is also supposed to be a notorious person) thereby getting possession of the rich man's wealth. In order to woo the rich man Anil poses as Radheysham Tiwari's (who is one of the richest businessman) son and he with the help of Tiwari's servant occupies Tiwari's lavish house.
Main Plot.
Nandu and Anjali with the help of their milkman gets accommodation posing as married couple. Jeetu robs his own father to start his business. Jeetu's friend Anil with the help of Radheysham Tiwari's servant occupies Radheysham Tiwari's bungalow and he poses as Radheysham Tiwari's son woos Kachara and gets engaged to his daughter. They are planning to get married in a weeks time, but its just a bad luck for Anil that Radheysham Tiwari who operates all his business sitting in his tiny village at the insistence of his wife Anjali who has a desire to learn the living style of big cities and his lawyer (Jeetu's father) move to their city bungalow. Anil is forced to move out and hide himself in a dingy hotel room.
Anjali on hearing about Radheysham decides to meet him for a job offer, but Mrs. Anjali Tiwari who always doubts her husband drives out Jr. Anjali. Jr. Anjali is waiting out with a desire to meet Radheysham. Jeetu enters the bungalow to set right the electronic item supplied by him. Jeetu happens to meet Jr. Anjali and assumes her to be the daughter of Radheysham. Jr. Anjali later on learns that there is a vacancy at Jeetu's shop and walks in for an interview. Jeetu under the impression that she is the daughter of a wealthy man offers her the job with a fear of losing the job Jr. Anjali never reveals that she is not the daughter of Tiwari.
After work hours Jeetu insist on dropping Anjali back at her home, Anjali has no way out but to accept his offer and she walks in Tiwari's bungalow and waves out to Jeetu. All complications starts here. Anjali is inside the bungalow waving to Jeetu. Tiwari who is returning from out sees Jeetu at his gate waving his hand when he sees up he sees Sr. Anjali doing her exercise. He presumes Jeetu is having an affair with Sr. Anjali. Jr. Anjali who has hidden herself behind the bushes comes out and runs away. Sr. Anjali sees Tiwari entering and she also sees Jr. Anjali running out from the bushes she presumes that Tiwari is having an affair with Jr. Anjali. On one occasion Jeetu sends a bouquet to Anjali (Jr. Anjali), Tiwari feels that his wife is cheating him and having an affair, similarly once when Tiwari goes for a walk his walking stick flies out from his hand and lands up in the bushes where Jr. Anjali is hiding. Tiwari goes in to retrieve his stick. Sr. Anjali sees Tiwari entering the bushes after some time she sees Tiwari coming out with his dhoti in his hand and she also sees Jr. Anjali running out of the bushes now both Mr. and Mrs. Tiwari starts openly accusing each other for cheating.
From here starts all the complications, laughter riots.
Hungama is a movie for those viewers who want only to enjoy each and every moment of the 16 reels. Though there are many characters and confusions Priyadarshan has handled them well. As said all well that ends well all the confusions are cleared and Nandu gets his ladylove Jr. Anjali leaving Jeetu high and dry.
Performance wise Paresh Rawal is the main hero of the movie who is well supported by Akshaye, Aftab, Sanjay Narvekar, Rajpal Yadav, Shakti Kapoor. Shoma Anand is loud in many of the scenes. There is not much scope for Rimi Sen.
Nothing great about the music.
Overall Hungama is a movie which can make you forget all your worries for a period of 155 minutes.
NOTE
Its not a movie who takes their brains to the theatres. For this movie you should keep your brains at home and not think of any logic.
