Humraaz - A movie that I avoided watching for all of these days for the prime reason that it had Amisha Patel starring in it and I've always been prejudiced against her. According to me she possesses very little acting skills and the only skills that she posses are to flash her bare legs whenever possible.
Upon my mother's insistence finally I sat down to watch the movie and I must say that it was a good thing that I saw it. A different story with an unpredictable twist to it at every moment you think you can predict the next scene. Lets take it star-wise first.
Bobby Deol - He has really matured as an actor and the role of a serious and staid millionaire suits him. Whenever I could tear my eyes away from his good acting I found myself noting the lines and cuts of his clothes which were indeed superb. Hats off to the clothes designer of the movie. They really did a total makeover on Bobby Deol's character. It was hard to imagine that this was the same guy who played a spoilt brat in so many movies. Roles like his in Humraaz suit him much better and he should keep experimenting with these mature looks according to me.
Akshaye Khanna - Unpredictable is the only word I could find for him. Whenever the story seemed to take a turn to the left , he seemingly effortlessly managed to move it right in the opposite direction. By the end of the movie it had become literally a mental chess between Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna and these two carried it on untill the end.
Amisha Patel - As I said she was little more than a glam doll and clothes horse in her previous movies she did a fine job in this movie. She was veryy good in the songs, romantic scenes and bits of comedy. But a hint for Amisha...stay off emotional scenes. whenever she tries to emote, her thick lower lip ( which is already very excessively thick) simply begins to quiver like gelatine when prodded. But two things I can say for Amisha - one that she is the first girl after Aishwarya Rai who can carry off a plain red evening gown with elan. Not many can do it. The other thing about Amisha is that she simply does not have the figure for a saree. she just cant drape it around herself properly. on top of that Amisha's hennaed hands (mehndi) looked hideous in the movie whenever she chose to flash them. compared to hers, I found shabana azmi's hands in makdee much more manicured !!! lol
overall the movie was good entertainment with good locales and songs. each scene of the movie was a very calculated step but by the end of the movie i.e. the fight scene at the jaipur fort, I think the director just lost interest in the movie or grew lazy and decided to give it a typical hotch potch bollywoodish ending what with people rising up after they r shot or hanged just to take the final shot. pathetic ending. other than the ending the movie is a must watch for all those who are looking for a change from the same old boring love stories.
