HUMRAAZ is a story of complex relationships, misplaced ambition and unmitigated greed. This movie is like fresh air with a Hollywood story and the desi ''filmy'' touch to it.
In short, all about a lot of funny money in a rich man’s home….
Karan Malhotara (played by Akshaye Khanna) and Priya (played by Amisha Patel) are in love. Karan, the gold digger with the help of his ladylove plans a conspiracy to con a millionaire, Raj Singhania (played by Bobby deol) who speaks to his Dadi ma everyday, has only one employee (“Haan bolo Saxena!!”) and has a freaky pal who says “Hota toh” every second. After some of the duo’s hip shaking and pelvic thrusts backed by a “so-called” troop of dancers they manage to get into Raj singhania’s offices. Aboard a cruise liner, Priya fakes her love for Raj and flirts with him, by luring him by swimming and tearing of her skirt (puppy phat gaya sir) “Viola!!!” ”What a logical conspiracy?!!” Raj Singhania is enraptured by her innocence and beauty and asks her to marry her…she accepts!! According to the plan, after a few days she will declare that her husband is impotent and coolly claim a hefty alimony. Pretty convenient isn’t it?
But as fate would have it, Priya falls in love with her husband. Thereby shattering the lover boy’s plan of becoming Mr. Richie Rich overnight. Some more twists and turns in the tale…Hubby discover the deception. Someone has to pay with his or her life now..!? Any guesses?!
Instead of adding more complexity & motive to the story and the characters, the first half is ruined in “PA-DHA-NI-SA”. Building the story around gorgeous people, foreign locales and high life-style isn’t a turn-on in any case. The main problem lies in the fact that the basic element of suspense is missing and the climax is a huge thud!!
But the good thing about this is, that despite of an under nourished story line the director duo Abba-Mustan have tried to create a “different” film…at least they are courageous enough to experiment.
Music is OK…no big deal…only the song “Bardaash nahin kar sakta” is catchy. Choreography is absolutely pathetic!! None of the actors have done any justice as far as the dancing goes…the screenplay and dialogues could have been much better, but Alas!!
Despite a weak role, Bobby Deol has done a good job and emerges as the dapper tycoon. Amisha looks gorgeous but she’s got to start focusing more on her acting. The film belongs to Akshaye Khanna who carries his cold image, with a taste of crisp dialogues adding some humor to the movie. He’s handsome, witty and evil. All in all Humraaz is a one time watch cuz’ of the smashing performance by Akshaye Khanna.
