Hum-Tum is yet another sugary-sweet, visually appealing movie that depicts the dilemmas of The Rich, with the right mix of Mush and Comedy.

It?s a nice movie if you don?t take it seriously.

Watch it for the Feel-Good factor; just don?t try to search for ?meaning?, ?messages? or ?insights? in it, for there are none.

It is a good movie to watch with your friends or your significant other. One can survive Hum-Tum if one is with people one likes, and has a sufficient supply of popcorns, ice cream, etc.

In spite of the clichés, extremities and drawbacks, Kunal Kohli?s remake of ?When Harry Met Sally?is entertaining, and hence, recommended for a one-time viewing. It is almost romantic, moderately funny and a visual treat.Acting, music and locales together support the movie.

Story-

It is the story of cartoonist Karan Kapoor (Saif Ali Khan) and designer Riya Prakash(Rani Mukharjee) who keep bumping into each other at various points of time. Karan?s cartoon series called ?Hum-Tum? is a huge success.

Karan is a flirt who is refreshingly frank about his opinions and attitude.

Riya doesn?t like Karan. She marries her ?Mr. Right? (Abhishek Bachhan as software pro Sameer).

A few years later, they meet again. Riya is sad as Sameer is no longer a part of her life, and Karan tries to be nice to her. They become great friends.

The second half of Hum-Tum starts with Riya-Karan?s new friendship.

For the entire second half, director Kohli desperately tries to make them fall in love with each other, he also tries in vain to make the ?falling in love? believable for the viewers, while the viewers, trapped in theatres, yawn, look at their watches, check for new SMS, eat their 6th pack of pop-corns or 5th packet of sandwich, etc.

I think the story was extremely stupid, impractical and illogical. Again, as I said, this isn?t quality cinema; it is just a nice-looking showpiece that has a lot of ornamental value but no real use or meaning.

And why did they have to separate Sameer and Riya-, who were so perfect for each other!!!!! (The fact is- Sameer seems so much nicer and smarter than Karan, that one keeps feeling sorry for Riya. The fact that Karan never seems good enough for Riya is the biggest flaw of Hum-Tum.)

Comparison with WHMS- The movie is supposed to be copied from WHMS. I don?t remember WHMS very vividly, but I guess WHMS was a very unconventional romance, with Sally falling for the highly unattractive Billy Crystal. In Hum-Tum on the other hand, Saif looks very gorgeous, and his looks and personality impart a dreamy, fairytale-like, romantic element to the movie.

In a nutshell-

Why to watch-

1)Saif and Rani- They look gorgeous, and act naturally.

Saif looks very weird in the beginning, as he is too old to play a student. But he looks very handsome in the second half, as he plays a character closer to his real age.

2)Abhishek Bachhan is perfect as Sameer. He has a very small role; I wish his role were longer?. He steals the show from Saif in just five minutes.

He looks great, and acts very well.

3)Kiron Kher plays Rani?s mother ? Parminder. She is hilarious

4)The look of the movie is cool. It is a visual treat. It is typical Yashraj production- extravagant weddings, picturesque foreign locales, designer dresses, beautiful houses, the works.

5)The ?Hum-Tum? animated cartoon

Why to avoid-

1)Boring and unbelievable second half

2)If you don?t like Saif, Rani, Abhishek

3)Boring songs

4)Extremely irrelevant and boring sub-plots of saif?s parents, his friends

5)If you tend to take every movie seriously and look for logic, decency, etc.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------

In short, Hum-Tum is worth watching; just leave your brains at home!
