Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain' is a sad film. Sad not because of a storyline that makes you weep, but because of pathetically melodramatic characters.
A rich, NRI (Anil Kapoor)(NRI is becoming a trend now in Hindi movies) and his father's (Anupam Kher) poor secretary (Kajol) get married on a one-year marriage contract, on completion of which, they could go their own way if they are not compatible. All is fine until Anil meets with an accident soon after their marriage.
Kajol, the pativrata naari, looks after her husband's needs day and night, An irritating song follows, with Kajol holding diyas and getting bloody knees trying to climb the steps of a temple, praying for her husband's wellbeing.
Kajol brings him back to good health and thinks she has passed the test when Anil drops the bomb - he considers Kajol more of a friend than a wife. They part ways and thus starts another tragedy..
Later, Anil Kapoor realises that he has fallen in love with Kajol and tries to woo her back.
The end is predictable - the couple patches up and curtains close with them lying side by side in the hospital.
Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher have done Unjustice to their roles. I think Anil Kapoor is now ageing and should accept role which is suitable to his age.
Kajol is only saving point of this film, she has once again proved that there is none as good as herself when it comes to acting.
The songs are okay. Dialogues are strong and leave a lasting effect. It seems as if the director did not know where to draw the line.
