Review
Out of the box, this is a very slow performing laptop. It used to take about 1:30-2:00 minutes to fully boot up. After a while I took the risk of upgrading the(compatibile) RAM from 4 GB to 12 GB by myself. Even that didn't have a drastic improvement in the performance of the laptop as I was expecting.
Even the light apps used to take lot of time, in fact default windows image viewer took over 10 seconds to open an image and so was the case with windows video player.
MS Office license got expired after 6 months or so.
There are several good things about this laptop too.
Battery life is insanely good, I've seen such a battery life only in Apple's iMac. I mean, you can easily get over 4-5 hours of screen time with moderate processing, if not more.
Speakers are amazing for a laptop in this price segment, very clear and loud sound.
The look is definitely premium, silver. as most of HP silver color laptops are of high specs and are priced at a very steep point.
VERDICT:
I WILL DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAPTOP, IF POSSIBLE, BUY A LAPTOP WITH AT LEAST I5 PROCESSOR AND 8 GB RAM, AND IF YOU ARE TIGHT ON BUDGET, THEN GO FOR A NON WINDOWS LAPTOP AS YOU CAN EASILY INSTALL WINDOWS FROM A LOCAL VENDOR FOR LESS THAN Rs 500.
THIS IS A VERY BASIC & FRAGILE LAPTOP, BUY IT ONLY IF YOU WANT TO BROWSE INTERNET AND LISTEN TO SOME MUSIC. FORGET ABOUT EVEN LIGHT GAMING, EDITING OF ANY SORT, MULTITASKING IS NOT INSTANT.
(I was able to use it and am still using it for over a year now is because I upgraded the RAM from 4 GB to 12 GB(Crucial 8 GB RAM bought from Amzon), or else, I wouldn't have been still using it)
WORST PART: After 1 yr and 2 months, the battery that was the shining light of this laptop went bad with a hardware issue(issue with the cells) and the back up got reduced to a mere 15 minutes. I escalated the matter to the mAnasultangement. the following was the escalation that I sent to the HP India higher mAnasultangement and asked for the free replacement of the battery. Even though the company is making profits in millions but they refused to replace a mere Rs 4000 battery
Hi
I bought a laptop HP Notebook-15-bs662tu from a store here in India called by the name'Croma' back in Sept 2018. The guy there told me that HP will give me an additional year of warranty if I buy & register it on HP website, anyways I was going to buy HP, that was an added perk, so I bought it.
Honestly, from day 1, the laptop was a lemon. It used to take forever to boot up and open even mid size apps but I was still content as the battery back up was unbelievable(upto 7 hours).
Back in Feb, 2020, out of nowhere, the battery back up got reduced to a mere 30 minutes. I checked online and it seemed like the battery had some hardware issue. Then with the serial #, I checked the warranty status and to my dismay, it showed expired, so the guy at the store lied.
Thereafter I contacted HP India complaint cell and they asked for my expectations, I told them bluntly about that guy and that the quality of HP products have come down to this extend that they are only good for the warranty period. Then they kept me waiting for the mAnasultangement decision which eventually was NOT to replace the battery.
Dear Sir, co-incidentally I've worked with HP India for 2 years about a decade ago and back then, we used to be proud of our products as we were the leaders of our product line at that price segment but now, as evident, the HP products have become fragile and I am cautioning you about the impending peril to the company's growth in view of the competition in the market in India today.
I am pretty sure other HP users are facing similar issues as well but they don't know where to report the matter other than the HP India helpline which off course, doesn't have the authority to take decisions. I took up this matter on behalf of all the HP consumers who are facing some kind of issues with their HP products. I don't know if HP India have misunderstood my intention but the reason I reported the matter directly to the mAnasultangement to have a look at the underlying cause for such hardware issues, so early after buying the products.
It should have come from their end to replace my battery free of cost, but I had to tell them, not that I can't buy one from my own pocket(it's just a one day aishwaryasingh23 check for me), but I thought that HP will appreciate the time I invested in writing several Emails to them, so it will be nice on their part to oblige to my expectation but their decision was not taken in good spirit and hence I decided to escalate this matter further. I don't want to go public(through ORM, PR etc) with this issue because at one time, HP was the source of my bread and butter.
All I expect from HP is to address the recurring hardware issues in HP product line especially those at the basic price segment and adhere to the customer's expectation that's been set from decades ago.
Finally, kindly go through the Emails(some with strong statements) exchanged b/w myself and HP India mAnasultangement which looks as though(being in monopoly) is not open to feedback emerging from HP product consumers.
