Howstuffworks is a really good site that I stumbled upon. well i'll come honest there and accept that I didn't ''stumble'' upon it. I was very fairly and nicely guided to it by my supervisor under whom I was undergoing my summer training. my supv made an off-hand remark about me might wanting to check out '' http://www.howsuffworks.com'' coz it had a lot of material that might help me with my project anytime. I took it as the rantings of an old man and filed it away in one of the dark recesses of my mind and went to work trying to scrape together a project report while at the sametime trying to keep up with all the calls for pc repair all over the office ( I was working as a pc troubleshooting and network management trainee at NTPC - National Thermal Power Corporation, Noida. ) .Now NTPC as you all know is one of the nine gems of india (navratnas) . Hence its main complex is over 7 storey high with an adjoining smaller building joined by a skybridge. This office itself has around 1000 employees and that counts for 1000 computer terminals. And believe me, catering to the whims and fantasies (lol) of so many people is no easy task. But still I was managing to keep my head above the water-level. Anyways coming back to my project report you all can imagine hence why it was such a tough task. during one of my idle moments (which were very few) , I decided to visit howstuffworks.com just to ''check it out''. Boy did I regret my decision for ignoring that website. It was a student's dream come true. This website contains detailed explanations of each and every topic imaginable and that is not restrained to I.T. topics only.
All topics are neatly segregated into categories like ''computers'',''household'' etc. I was primarily interested in the I.T. area hence this was the category I visited the most. All the details and definitions I needed for my project, I found them here along with still diagrams and interactive diagrams too. Some of the topics subdivided themselves into other categories like multimedia, memory, gaming, firewalls, networking ---- the list is endless. After I finished with my project I dared to venture out into the other areas like Automobiles, Household, Photography etc. I stumbled on really surprising facts here. I came to know that a convertible car is much heavier as compared to its coupe(roofed) version. Such small things are present here along with answers to dumb questions like ''What would happen if you tied 46 helium baloons to a dog ? '' :-) . Do check it out all you students and all you non-students if just for the trivia which are relly good. cheerios. adios amigo. azzvyn ps: sing like nobody is listening, dance like nobody is watching, give a damn to the world, enjoy yourself.
