I leave in the morning to college real early and not all times does mom have time to prepare breakfast for me. Ours has not been a culture where we eat a sandwitch for breakfast or can do with salad for lunch. We have our well-defined lineage of 2,3 or even 5-6 course meals. Speaking of breakfast, down south, breakfast has always meant a sufficient scrumptious food intake. It is either dosa, idly, upma or pongal none of which can be prepared in jiffy. Northern India has its range of parathas, baturas, pooris, chapattis, dhoklas, rotis and so on. The one common item is probably bread’n’ omelets. Nonetheless these days we are all caught in our whirlpool of making it to the top in our lives and no one really bothers about what we do or do not eat.
To the ones oblivious of this drink let me introduce to you, horlics- the complete nourisher. It is yet another health drink we find in our supermarket shelves, but this one is real good. I am personally no epicure, but I can say that this is easy to gulp and tasty too.
Why health drinks?
Some of the body’s prime activities include building immunity and helping the body maintain its internal resistance. Co-coordinating mental and physical development, keeping us mentally sharp and physically active. A healthy growth and maintenance of bones, tissue repair is what it needs to do on a regular basis which is carried out everyday. A source of energy for all this, is what everyone’s body requires.
Yes, its prime intake is via aplenty consumption of nature’s delights. Vegetables, fruits, nuts, meat, eggs, greens and so on and forth. If you have a granny or a granddad or aunts in your growing years, you can virtually hear the reverberation of them pontificate on this issue.
However, these nature’s delights come in variant colours, shapes, sizes, seasons, places, costs, tastes and textures. Not all of us have an inclination to everything about something. Like, someone does not like the skin of chicken or taste of coconut or smell of garlic of contour of strawberry or bitterness of gourd or the mess of watermelon. Or, in other words something about something. On the other hand , people may not have access to all kinds of vitamin enriched, mineral filled , high carb proteinacious food every single meal. Health drinks only supplement you diet and add that little extra intake of glucose to you body for its daily activities.
Remember, it isn’t your diet, but is a part of it.
Preparation: mix 2/3 spoonfuls into hot milk, stir well and consume to relish. The best way to have horlics is piping hot with lotsa froth. You can also mix horlics in hot water, but I personally would not recommend it. it can also be consumed as is, (i.e. in the powder form) too. It is a malt-based food. When you are back home from a day of hard work, horlics will send you from enervated to energized with zing. It is energizing. It is a great substitute for caffeine addicts, although it will take time to switch from coffee to horlics.
Believe me, it is a good replacement for breakfast. It is good if you can supplement your breakfast with it but it will do otherwise as well. It does not have the chocolate flavour like a lot of other drinks(like chocolate horlics) Actually speaking, chocolate reduces appetite for healthy food. Remember being a kid and wanting to gobble all the chocolates in the fridge but not even looking at the vegetables on the dining table? Yeah, that’s what I am talking about.!!!
Some more info Net wt 500g It is available in larger bottles as well as refill packs. Horlics contains the following ingredients Wheat flour, malted barley, milk solids, malt extract and sugar Apart from these it is said to contain minerals and vitamins essential to help Vitamins, proteins, minerals and calcium.
