The Plot

6 newly wed bindaas couples set out to enjoy their honeymoon at cosy Goa.

Hitesh (RANVIR SHOREY) and Shilpa(DIYA MIRZA)(Least Romantic Couple) -

Miserable feeling Shilpa has post marriage blues and cannot bear to be with her husband any single moment. She wants to escape from it all while helpless & exasperated Hitesh has no clue how to comfort or understand Shilpa. Does Shilpa have a past that she cannot forget?

Partho(KAY KAY MENON) and Milly(RAIMA SEN) (Most Passionate Couple) -

Partho is the conservative of the two. He loves his wife dearly but fears he will lose her to modern fashion and broad-minded outlooks. Bold, extrovert Milly who pins for her husband in equal measure is stiffled by the orthodox tradition of her culture. She wants to break free and savour every second.

Oscar(BOMAN IRANI) and Nahid(SHABANA AZMI) (Most Intimate Couple) -

For both, its their second marriage. Having lost their earlier spouses to terrible incidents, Oscar & Nahid are committed to be together forever. Although Oscar still has a troubling relationship with his daughter from his first marriage,  Nahid shows the way through her unconditional love.

Aspi(ABHAY DEOL) and Zara(MINISSHA LAMBA) (Most Cute Couple) -

Both have been dotting on each other since early childhood. They look like an impossible couple because they never fight or even have an argument! Morning & night, they gaze at each other's eyes endlessly, flying kisses et al while others can only gasp at the fairy-tale like pair in amazement.

Bunty(VIKRAM CHATWAL) and Madhu(SANDHYA MRIDUL) (Most Diverse Couple) -

They are two very different people brought together by Fate. She has a sad past with an irresponsible lover while he, an American Indian, has personal issues that he can't control yet. Can they forget their past troubles and begin their new journey with hope and trust or will Bunty's complex history scar the marital bliss?

Vicky(KARAN KHANNA) and Pinky(AMISHA PATEL)  (Most Annoying Couple) -

Pinky loves to chat & chat & chat & chat to others about her past, present and future relationship with Vicky(isnt' that reason enough!). Vicky, constantly irritated by Pinky's antics(just like us) is also deeply disturbed by a certain problem that keeps tugging at his heart throughout the entire honeymoon journey. What is it?

Motorcycle Rider?

Yes, we have a motorcyclist with dark helmet, dark track suits, sleek bike et al who follows our innocent passengers wherever they go. And he has a loaded revolver in his hand! Who's he and what's he upto?

Superman!

Ya, we do have a superhero too that flies around the place anonymously. Foreign tourists in Goa keep shouting at local crowds that they happened to see a human bird in the sky! Did they actually see a shadow of a plane, a large bird or the immortal comic legend himself?

Now, somewhere in the picture, dashing ARJUN RAMPAL makes his presence felt (this is not a spoiler'cause every other paper or mag has revealed this already). But who'z he here and what role does he play? That sweet little pleasure is for you to discover.

My Review

*You know, this movie had the potential to be an utterly lovely entertainer. But, as you quite figured it out, HOT turned out to be a wee-bit disappointing.

Some of the scenes were truly silly stuff that disturbed me from otherwise enjoying the beautiful fun & frolic of the movie. 2 of'em come to mind prominently -

~ 1~  Abhay & Minissha's secret meeting at the beach one night  and

~ 2~ Kay Kay & Raima Sen's encounter with wayside robbers another late night  or

perhaps even the scene where Raima Sen goes paragliding.

I'm not sure if any of the viewers enjoyed these moments. They were funny to the point of being unintelligent and quite old-fashioned creativity.

Barring them and the lukewarm ending, the movie has many lip-smacking, wonderful moments.

~ Check out the electrifying Abhay-Minissha tango to the sensuous song ' Pyaar ki Yeh Kahani Suno'.  If any viewer can keep their jaw closed throughout the entire dance, they deserve an award!

~ Boman Irani & Shabana Azmi's hilarious conversation with a foreign tourist at the beach.

~ Raima Sen's uninhibited acting and passionate body language that will truly impress you.

~ the foot-tapping, masti ' Sajnaji Vari Vari ' song sequence where every couple in the movie come together and groove to their heart's content.

and so many other spontaneously funny moments in the movie.

Reg. performances, eveyone has been very impressive(can't pick out anyone in particular).

However, inspite of repeated yet failed warnings, our directors continue to give Amisha Patel wildly chatty or wildly weepy roles. I think its time someone confers her with the'Bollywood Survivor Extraordinaire' award!

And Minissha Lamba has still miles to trek but nevertheless is a breathtaking dancer.

Oh by the way, when I meant lip-smacking moments earlier, I meant it literally!

There are one too many no-holds-barred smooching & other hot scenes that it's best kids are kept out of this.

Director- Reema Katgi

Year- 2007

Starring- Shabana Azmi, Boman Irani, Kay Kay Menon, Raima Sen, Abhay Deol, Minissha Lamba, Amisha Patel, Karan Khanna, Vikram Chatwal, Sandhya Mridul, Diya Mirza, Ranvir Shorey, Arjun Rampal

Verdict~ A decent entertainer, but no two doubt about it, HOT is still an ideal romantic movie. Couples, go for it and fall crazily in love all over again.
