~Dhaba de Grande~ . Review on Honey Da Dhaba, Kankurgachhi, Kolkata

The word ‘dhaba’ can itself elicit the gastric juices in your stomach and tingle your taste buds. Born and brought up in Kolkata, I had tasted and tried almost all food joints – the major (well-known) ones and non-major too I guess. It was a Friday evening. Took my family out for dinner @Honey Da Dhaba, Kankurgachi, Kolkata.

Ambience:

The lighting was perfect. Not-too-dark not-too-loud. The décor reflected Punjabi style and saywith staffs wearing turbans. Even the guard at the door had strong Punjabi accent. ;)

Decorated with artificial trees and few exposed paintings, the restaurant lacks the touch and feel of a well high-classed food joint. But I was not concerned about the decorations so didn’t pay much heed to it anyways.

Latest Bollywood tracks were oozing around the room which made the place a romantic adobe for couples. I noticed this place as a favorite hunt for couples. The place was packed with people anyways.

The staff was courteous and timely.

Food:

For Starters, we took Chicken Pahari Kabab @Rs.280 The food was served within due time. It tasted excellent. I had tasted kababs in all special kabab joints but this kabab somehow tasted special. A perfect blend of spices which is mild and basted with the right marinade gives you the right punch you will never regret. The complimentary green chutney really adds to the beauty of it.

Now came the Main Course,we ordered Tandoori Butter Rotis, Masala Naan, Fried Rice, Paneer Butter Masala @210, Chicken Reshmi Butter Masala @240, Chicken Amritsari @210 and Pineapple Raita. Quite a sumptuous meal needless to say. The quantity was more than ok. Every item had a distinct taste and flavor to it. The variation in the dishes added to its ecstacy. The butter rotis were only tandoori rotis basted with butter. The masala naan was soft and fluffy. Chicken Amritsari topped all dishes with the chicken pieces so tender that it melted in your mouth. Yeah, it was delicious and mouth-watering too. The chilled pineapple raita supplemented both in quality and quantity. We were so full, could not finish the whole assembly. Finally, gave up. :(

For Dessert I took the famous Punjabi Lassi @Rs.80 while others took Tooty-Fruity Ice-Cream. The lassi had uniform consistency throughout and all I can say is it was pure torture making food so damn irresistible!! It says like “lassi is the best anecdote to digest your food”. This makes me wonder whether the above statement holds for lassi’s topped with butter cream, cashews, nuts and pistas. Well who cares!! It’s a delicacy with a perfect-cherry-on-top. It is one of their signature drinks. Do give it a try if you ever come to this place. I still savor the taste of my last visit. Darrnn!! It makes my mouth water!! Grrr… :(

Epilogue:

I am planning to frequent my visits to this dhaba in the near future. As for me, I am a complete foodie and do like to try and taste good foods and flavors. Vegetarians do not be offended. There are good veg dishes to savor too.

P.S This is a great place to take your family out for dinner. But beware, plan on your exercise schedule for the next few days, since you are going to gain quite a few calories. I suppose it would not be grand offence if you consume a few more calories, right??
