Bajaj Pulsar : Is the fav. bike of the masses, but many refuse to talk about it’s mileage and performance. Many like this bike for it’s look ,sheer power and the slogan ’definetly male’. There are complaints after it does a 15,000-20,000 kms. Bajaj’s poor service will burden you more and peace of mind is not guaranteed after 20,000 kms. Let’s hope Bajaj pull their socks up !!!
Unicorn : This is a decent bike designed for quality commuting for office goer’s in cities. Unfortunately it is not loaded with latest 4S engine technologies of International Honda R&D (Fuel injection, Advanced Microprocessor Ignition, Honda lean burn technology etc..) . Service is excellent and any built in problems are ironed out without customer’s knowledge when you give it for servicing. Peace of mind is guaranteed as far as you own this and service regularly. Mileage is also consistent and reasonable. Summary : Simply trust HONDA for best value.
Apache : Will be lost in the race by big way. In fact TVS may not mass produce this due to poor response. Only new college goer’s are after this bike for it’s killer looks. Performance of this bike will not be bettter than the failed TVS Fiero. Avoid this bike and look for Unicorn/Bajaj. Ofcourse if you love Tendulkar/Dhoni more than your bike then you may buy this piece.
Achiever : Some magazine reviews claim this bike achieves more mileage than unicorn and has the same power as that of unicorn. There are minor glitches like gear shift harder in this bike otherwise this is the same Unicorn but with Twin-Horns (twin suspension) and has better handling on all types of roads compared to Unicorn doing very well in city roads . Hero Honda superior customer focus and excellent service network will ensure peace of mind for miles and miles. Achiever should be your second choice after unicorn if you want longer association with the bike and peace of mind.
TVS Star : TVS has reduced their margins on this bike to mass produce and sell it to muster big volumes The features of this bikes is excellent and scores well over CT100. But time will tell the overall quality of this bike.
CT100 : I have seen some using this bike for racing with 150cc bikes on ring roads of B’lore. It’s amazing bike and good for rough rides and people who don’t care for performance. You can service this bike with any roadside mechanic ( but with risks) . Good value for money. Best entry level bike along side with HH CD Deluxe.
Gladiator : Brains from Yamaha Japan have finally arrived at India to see what’s going wrong with Indian Yamaha bikes. The difference b/w Gladiator and YBX125 is that the parts of gladiator are carefully sourced and manufatured w.r.t. gladiator. Marketing strategy, Build Quality and Servicing have come into focus to ’up’ the Yamaha market share. This bike may be a hit in short span of time, but has to take on hot competition from Super Splendor, Discoverer, Shine & Zeus.
Zeus & Shine : Both are very good and their penetration depends on flaws of Super splendor, Super splendor has already some minor glitches like hard gear shift which were not there in Splendors. HH popularity will still give big competition to these bikes.
Super Splendor : Magazine reviews say this is very good bike and has typical HH quality. Minor glitches like hard gear shift will result in eroding it’s markrt share in favour of Discoverer/gladiator/Shine/Zeus. Many old HH owners will blindly adopt this as upgrade just for it’s name.
Discoverer-125 : Lot of compliants on consistency in quality from bike to bike, Bajaj can’t afford to push few bad bikes with good ones. The mileage of discoverer is also wrongly claimed. Mileage in some bad bike are less than 45 which is very bad. Same thing : Bajaj has to pull their socks !!!!
