I am here to write a 2 yr ownership review on this bike. Here is the story.
Well I had a silly craze for Royal Enfield, which turned into a nightmare. Felt like giving my ownership review to help anyone if I could.
Bikes used so far.. Splendor.. Hero Honda Ambition ( still have it)..Pulsar..Unicorn.. Royal Enfiled 350 CC std.
I purchased this bike for the first time in 2007 in Chandigarh. Having a craze for Bullet, I kept this bike for two years and then sold it.. which was a mistake (well that is an another story). Never in my two years of ownership of this bike I had any problems related to Engine, Chain or any kind of starting problems even in cold mornings of Dec and Jan in north India.
For first 6 months, I had rear tyre puncture problems very frequently for which I changed the tyre and and never had problem after that. I got married in the later part of 2007.. My wife and me decided to trip complete Himachal Pradesh on the Bike.. so frnds. this was the bike.. 10 days. on bike covered almost all of himachal.. Trust me, no problems at all. Not even a single problems. I drove with a pillion and One big Bag for 10 days and happily came back to Chandigarh. By this time, bike was almost 8 months old.
I also did a 9 hour continues drive for approx 400 kms with hardly 30 mins of stoppage in total one way, so 800 kms in total in two days. Just had horn problem, which I got rectified from a local mechanic on the way.. and once the bike stopped on the way.. which started after 2 - 3 kicks. ( though it had self start as well.. but I prefer kick start).... and to mention.. the drive was in Summers in the month of may.. also I drove well in between 70 - 90 KMPH.. by this time.. bike was almost 2 yrs old..
Apart from these two big ones.. I have done couple of short trips as well.. been to haridwar.. and other places as well. Never had any problems ever.. no engine leakage.. nothing. This is one of the most comfortable bikes.. I would say.. better than Royal enfield.. On bullet.. your bumps would start paining because of hard shockers on long drives. I am 6.1 ft tall.. and felt totally comfortable driving this bike.
Very low maintenance cost or I would say.. no maintenance at all.
Points to keep your bike healthy
-> I used to get it serviced after every 2K or 2.2K kms..
-> Keep the chain tension right..
-> Carbs. tuned and Air filter cleaned. also get your bike cleaned under the seat as well.. coz the air filter breaths under the seat.
-> Get your bike serviced after go for a long dirve like 500kms plus.. atleast the oil change...
Of course all this has to be done on service..
Avg:- It depends on the way you drive. but the bike gives between 45- 55KMPL depending on the driving conditions..
Performance:-
I don't know if somebody has observed it or not.. but The engine of the bike adjusts according to how you drive. for e.g. in city, to cross 70 the bike will take time to cross as compared to driving on highway.. I have reached even upto 115 KMPH on the meter.. the initial pickup might not be that high.. but later its awesome.
Comfort:- Its the smoothest bike, with virtually no engine sound at idle.. no vibes even at 90 KMPH..
Would I recommend this Bike?? I am also going to buy it again.. :D
My review is based on the initial version on Unicorn. which I am sure we have a improved version now.
