Hello friends, this is my first review. I have written it to the best of my abilities. if found lacking, plz forgive me....
when I decided to buy a 150cc bike, my obvious choices were hunk, cbz- xtreme, unicorn, pulsar. after reading loads of reviews I decided to buy the uni as honda is a highly trusted brand.
i have owned my black beauty for 7 months now and have done close to 5000kms and I have absolutely loved it to this point.. lets get straight to the facts now---
PROS:
1) SMOOTH ENGINE
2) I am getting a MILEAGE of around 45-50 in city and 50-57 on the highway. I think these figures will go up if I ride the bike properly instead of trying to be john abraham every time I climb on it :)
3)smooth GEAR SHIFTS
4)good ACCELERATION
5)HANDLING is simply brilliant. I think its down to the mono-suspension and the centre of gravity of the bike is perfect. easy to flick the bike around in traffic.
6)LOW MAINTENANCE COST. I agree that the spare parts are slightly costlier than others but its they of a better quality. there are a lot of service centres and spare parts are easily available.
7) RESALE value is outstanding.. the only used bikes which are being sold for a higher price than a used honda unicorn is the bullet enfield !!!!!!!!!!!1 I have seen bikes that are 6 or 7 years old being sold for close to 45 to 50,000.... check for a pulsar of similar age they cost only about 25-30,000
CONS:
1)Lack of a digital console. I believe the unicorn is the only bike in the 150 cc segment still to use analog console.... digital console is surely the way forward and they certainly look very cool.i dont
know why honda has decided to stick with analog.
2)the headlight is weak and the high beam of my bike was pointing up into the tree branches ... had to get that rectified at the service center.
3)at 13.3 bhp it has the lowest number out of cbz, hunk, gs150r, pulsar, apache,fz
4)the plastics used for the switches could have been of better quality. my indicator switch does not work when I push it right, I have had this problem since 1st service. the service center has not yet fixed it. I have given up hope of it ever getting fixed
5) the unicorn has started to look a bit boring. looks are a very important part of a motorcycle and I have no clue why honda are sticking to this very old design. to make things worse, HMSI have given the honda shine an almost identical front end. just look at how stylish the fz and pulsar look. for the love of god HMSI, please improve the look s... and I dont mean honda dazzler.. I absolutely hate how it looks and almost same as the honda twister.
6) difficult to start it if not used for more than a 4 or 5 days.. had to use the kicker almost 7 times to finally get it started.. it wasnt even during the cold weather so I dont know if it is a universal problem or my bike's alone.
7)have to downshift into 1st gear every time I approach a speed bump or slow down, else the chain makes wierd noises. havent encounterd this problem with my friends gs150r
8) 99% of bikes in the 150 cc segment have a lot more features than the unicorn. infact the unicorn has the least amount of features.... just look at the suzuki gs150..it has 6 speed, digital console, gear shift indicator, side stand indicator, optimum rpm indicator, 15.5 ltr fuel tank, led tailight ...all this for around 2000 lesser than the honda unicorn.
problem faced till now===
1) indicator switch not working properly
2) engine shows missing once in a while. HMSI still cant find the problem. bike acts like as if the main tank is empty and you have to switch into reserve. have encounters this problem only 4 or 5 times in 7 months. bike jerks for a second, then comes back to normal as if nothing has happened. maybe there is something wrong with the fuel filter..still puzzled by it..
well thats it then.. the unicorn is a joy to own... buy it if you rank reliability above looks and power.
hope you guys make the right choice.. TC
