The Honda City 1.3 Lxi has inherited a silky smooth engine, as is the case with all Hondas. This 1343 cc unit punching out 90 bhp at 6400 rpm is one of the most powerful if one compares the output is to be compared to the engine capacity. This car may fall behind its bigger engined cousin but can give most other cars a tough time. Along with the good power output 111 Nm of torque at 4700 rpm also helps the City 1.3 in providing exhilarating if not mind numbing performance. Mechanicals are shared with the City 1.5 and handling characteristics are therefore similar. The Lxi does not get the power steering like its upmarket version the Exi, so life expectedly becomes more arduous.
The Honda City 1.3 like the City 1.5 went under the scalpel and the resulting cosmetic changes make it one of the snazziest looking cars available in India. The smart new nose and the taillight cluster add tremendous charm to the car. The Lxi also gets body colored bumpers and the lack of features is only apparent once you step in. The bland facia is nothing to write about and this is one of the downside of the Honda City. The space is average with cramped legroom but the drivers seating is typically Honda like and keeps the driver in an alert and racy position. Time and time again the Honda has been dubbed as the ultimate drivers car and the reason is apparent. Besides the air conditioning the 1.3 Lxi gets only a few features such as the remote boot and fuel cap release. This glaring lack of features is not justified especially because of the high sticker price.
The Honda City 1.3 is a powerful car and could have ruled the mid size segment but a high sticker price is probably its biggest shortcoming. New entries from competitors in the form of the Ford Ikon, Opel Corsa, Fiat Siena and Hyundai Accent also offer handsome, powerful and feature rich cars at a competitive price and Honda needs to rethink its pricing strategy.
