Beautiful comedy drama

Movie : Home Delivery

Director : Sujoy Ghosh

Starring : Vivek Oberoi, Boman Irani, Ayesha Takia, Mahima Choudhry, Juhi Chawla, Karan Johar

The plot ~

It's Diwali and everyone seems to be in an upbeat mood. For Sunny (VIVEK OBEROI), the day is like any other. He continues to struggle with multi-tasking - being a 'Gyan Guru' (a Agony Uncle) for his boss JUHI CHAWLA-run Times of Hindustan. He also feverishly tries to finish a perfect movie script for director KARAN JOHAR. In the meantime, he attempts in vain to ward off girlfriend Jenny's (AYESHA TAKIA) plan for an early wedding. Amidst this chaos, he finds no time to visit his cute lil sister who yearns for his company.

Michael (BOMAN IRANI), a jobless old fella, drags his big belly to a pizza corner to try his luck. And he gets the job albeit with some reluctance from the manager who thinks Michael is a nuisance.

Meanwhile Maya (MAHIMA CHAUDHRY) a seductive famous south indian actress meets Sunny in a talkshow and sparks fly furiously! She distracts his senses and soon he falls like nine-pins over her, Jenny be damned!

Soon, Michael comes to Sunny's door to deliver a pizza. Once there, Sunny receives more than just a pizza! What does the dumb Michael do that changes Sunny's life forever?

That's not all. There's a serial killer in town, stalking Maya. The fun and trouble has only begun!

The review ~

I solemnly swear that I'll never EVER read anymore movie reviews of critics. These fellas have done injustice to a beautifully made movie.

The songs are beautiful. The music, the beats....your feet keeps tapping.

The comedy is rip-roaring. Best aspect of the movie is the treatment of humour. Although it looks effortless on-screen, surely lotsa planning has gone behind each shot. Cool creativity.

Cinematography is another major plus. Lots of color & brightness, it reminds me of the effervescent Dil Chahta Hai.

Memorable performances from the entire cast. Vivek Oberoi has given one of his best performances to date. Mahima was a sheer delight. Boman Irani's act is restrained yet endearing. Ayesha Takia has some way to go yet she impresses. Juhi Chawla's role was short therefore we couldn't witness her talent much. But, as usual, she was breathtaking. And all, check out Karan Johar! The man acts very well...hmmm we need more of that chocolat presence :)

Every actor has brought life to his or her character - like Saurabh Shukla as Sunny's nutcase neighbour Pandey, the spot boy in the talkshow, the serial killer, the wannabe singer of 'Rawalpindi' or even the pizza girl at the counter.

Then there are some big Bollywood stars who make a special appearance in the movie - no need to mention their names here, the surprise is yours :)

Usually, there's a tendency to go overboard with comedy but Sujoy Ghosh controls it deftly. Kudos to his effort. If his earlier Jhankaar Beats was fun, this is miles ahead. With Home Delivery, Sujoy has, in my opinion, catapulted himself into one of the most talented directors of Bollywood.

Any flaws? Probably some of the family audience will not appreciate the saree-slipping act of Maya in every other frame. Frankly speaking, me thinks it's not vulgar. None of the titillating scenes have gone over the top & has been treated gracefully.

Also the movie moves slow in the beginning. But what the heck, who cares? :)

Tip for the viewers - Keep the logic away & simply enjoy the movie for what it is, you will like it better

Final word

A 5/5 movie - simply because the movie delivers! It's a paisa-vasool entertainer and is innovative too.

One more final word, to Sujoy Ghosh -

Ignore the critics, great job dude!
