Friends, don't read travelogues to get an idea about Hoganakkal - just visit the place. An unusual experience - not your regular beaches, mountains, mall road, temple outing.
Highly accessible from Bangalore(good roads), it is a small slice of heaven on earth. The rock formations are outstanding - especially where the whirlpools of rainy season have carved them over centuries. The deep river on one side(with steep black walls) of the sandbar and shallow river on the other for frolicking is one of its kind. When the boatman spins you in the shallow, flimsy, reed boat at high speed in the middle of the river - you can scream from fear and exhilaration at the same time. The more adventurous can go under a waterfall to be drenched completely. This can be followed by fried fish and massages on the beach for soothing your nerves.
Some things you should - as Nike says it -'Just Do It'. This is one of those things. Just one hiccup - you have to bargain hard for hiring the boat and other facilities. There are no fixed prices.
