This review is on the hitachi logicool i, one of the old offerings from hitachi, formerly amtrex hitachi which was there in the market before the logicool mu was introduced in 2003.there wasnt much of a difference between mu and logicool, except for the latter being without the patented auto climate technology of hitachi.


Since the ac had been discontined from the market way back in 2004, i have just mentioned the essentials, since there wont be anyone looking for it in the market now. Its the oldest ac we have in our house, and its still showing no signs of giving up, in the scorching heat of delhi, where most of the claims regarding acs fall short.


At that time, though I didnt possess that much knowledge on airconditioners, i was suggested this ac by one of our close acquaintances, and we blindly went for it. This was purchased from kaydee audiovisions , sector 18, noida.on 5th april, 2003 when the mechanic came to install this unit, he told us that he had never installed a hitachi ac, this came to us as a shock because, as such the ac was costliest in the market at 27000inr, going sans the aftersales would be very difficult.but all my worries were let off, when I got the after sales support.


As all the hitachi acs, this too is very attractive , with a left air discharge , and with hitachi engraved in the middle of the grille. Features are plenty, more than anyother till date, with a beautiful handset.in brief-


1.auto cool-wherein the ac works at full speed at 25 c, to save power .




  1. cool mode/dry mode/fan mode-like most of the acs.




3.the unique feature was the kaimin, the night mode, wherein the ac increases the temp at evey hour, upto four hours, to provide a sound sleep.


4.password protection-to prevent the misuse of ac.


5.filter clean indicator


6.powerful mode to quickly bring down the temp on a hot day.


7.my mode, wherein one can customise his own settings for the ac

8.advanced on off timer-the ac senses the room temp and switches on accordingly, just to create the right ambience.


the ac gives excellent cooling at 18500 btu, with a power consumption of 1900 watts.the control panel looks futuristic, with the power index and the black cover.the noise is very less, its next to a split.


now , it worked perfectly fine for a year, until the next season, when the gas escaped.since the ac was under warranty, we called the hitachi helpline , and the ac was picked up from our home that very day.


after regular phone calls, they returned the ac in 6 days.i found that the fan blade was broken and the fins twisted.i could realize it myself what fate this ac was to meet with, when I saw those 2 mechanics happily sitting on the ac itself , on the cycle carrierthe day it was being taken to the service center.


any way, they accepetd their negligence, and reluctantly replaced all the broken parts.with the replaced pars handed over to me.when the ac was turned on, it didnt work at low fan speed, and on scrutiny.it was found that the pcb was damaged too.


that day I lost my temper badly on those guys.they agreed to repair the pcb, within a day or two.the next morning, on sunday, they came at 8 am to fix the pcb.now this was too surprising, as I hadnt expected such a quick response, that too on a sunday morning. And since that day, the ac has never visited a service center, nor have I felt the need to call any mechanic


Since I had purchased 2 quadricool tm last year, i have seen a drastic improvement in the after sales service of hitachi.the mecahnics are efficient and professionally sound.and the company keeps taking periodic feed backs from its customers as well.


On this part, ogeneral really needs to work hard., since the people there are too casual and unsound when they are dealing with their customers.as such they rely on those local mechanics who would prove a headache once called.i am not having a biased opinion regarding ogeneral, since even I have 2 window acs from them.


Though this model has been discontinued, it still proved its worth for those who wanted a feature packed top of the line ac in 2003.there has never been an issue with the fan motor or the compressor or any of its components.noise has increased a bit, but thats tolerable.i am indeed happy with this ac, and would not mind going for a hitachi when it comes to airconditioners, the next time.
