This review pays tribute to all the 96 Liverpool fans who died as result of the Hillsborough Disaster, which occured at the Semi-Final match between Liverpool FC and Nottingham Forest FC.
~~~HILLSBOROUGH~~~~
Hey, there has been quite some months that I haven`t written a review yet, but in the mean time, I had bought a book titled HILLSBOROUGH-THE TRUTH. This is the first and ONLY book which made me angry, considering that it details how the British Police, could not control a crowd, which resulted in many unfortunate and unnecessary deaths. So, here I am writing a review on this book!
HILLSBOROUGH-THE TRUTH is a book written by Phil Scraton who is a Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies. The book has been published by MAINSTREAM PUBLISHING PROJECTS LTD, Edinburgh, and released in 1999.
Right, to start with, I`m going to relate the whole book briefly. The book has a total of 11 chapters, from the preface to the epilogue of the disaster. At 3.06 PM (precise time), 15th April 1989, the worst British Sporting Disaster in Football history took place when 96 Liverpool fans were being crushed to death in the FA-Cup Semi-Final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, at Hillsborough, the home Stadium for Sheffield Wedenesday United.
Those were the days when British fans were being accused of hooliganism at football matches, but the book describes the events of the tragic incident in a much different way, than previously thought. Before the Hillsborough Disaster, was the Heysel disaster in Belgium which claimed the lives of 38 fans. The game was between two European Rivals, Liverpool FC and Juventus FC and the Liverpool Fans were being accused of Holliganism, banning them from playing other European games.
However, at Hillsborough, it was a different story....the South Yorkshire Police were in charge of the football match and the failure to control the crowd, resulted in overcrowding. There was a lack of Police Presence, to control overflow to the turnstiles and into the tunnel. The Senior Officer incharge of the great match, Superintendent Dukenfield, had assumably very little experience in controlling at football matches, and yet he was appointed a task he didn`t actually deserve!!!
The book, then goes on by narrating the whole incident from noon, when the turnstiles were opened to the personal experiences of the bereaved, till the reports by the coroners and courts until it`s progresses till date. I do not wish to explain the book further, so PLEASE get this book, it`s the only book on Hillsborough you`ll evere need!
I will not add more to this review, JUST GRAB this book, if you`re a Liverpool Fan or an ordinary foolball fan; this is a great book, unfolding events and the whole truch (atleast on a wide scale) of the HILLSBOROUGH TRAGEDY.
This book is really detailed, horrific, tragic and by far realistic but superbly written, and this makes HILLSBOROUGH-THE TRUTH, one of the most outstanding books available on the market nowadays. (I am a Manchester United Football Club Fan, but seriously, after reading this book, you`ll feel that the incident which happened to the Liverpool Fans 15 years ago, can happen to any other Football Team around the WORLD!)
