Even a moron can guess now, what I am talking about.Yes,it is Hero Honda Motor’sSplendor. The best selling motorcycle of all times. This is what Hero Honda Motors is proud of .Splendor is their living. It is their God on two wheels.I know I don’t have to be too explanatory while talking about this living legend, but just for the review, lemme continue...
Perhaps the best bike in terms of soberty,in the executive segment.Designing is not very hi-fi,keeping in mind the image of its rider(although I have seen people of all ages riding this bike, starting from 14-70).The fairing is one of the firsts in its own class, which holds a 35 watt bulb for safe night prowling.Frame is the usual Tubular Cradle. The petrol tank is a little bigger than the CD100’s and can hold 12 litres of petrol in it before refills. The back part is even more simple with a rectangular light.Overall the bike is O.K. in terms of Design.
Moving a little bit downwards, one can see the familiar 97.2cc engine(Used in almost half a dozen Hero Hondas).Still the refinement, acceleration, speed, pick up and feel factor is better than all other Hero Hondas(For a moment forget the CBZ,Ambition and Karizma). With the help of all the 7.5 horses, the bike attains a maximum speed of 90 km/hr.Now someone would ask me,”Enticer_man,in how much time does this bike moves from 0-60?”For those morons I would like to say that this is not a performance bike.Executive segment bikes are never made to give performance. If you want this ‘performance’ thing ,search for dhruv_tara in the members directory, coz he deals with speed and power which come under the category of performance. But as for the record, the bike takes about 10 seconds to move from 0-60.
Transmission is via 4-speed gearbox, which is one of the best in any Hero Honda.
Now comes the best part. The factor which is every person’s concern whoever buys an executive segment bike, mileage.Splendor was born to give mileage. On the highways, the bike may give anything between 70-80 km/l.Whereas,in the city limits, the bike,if run carefully, can give 60-65 km/l,very easily. However if driven carelessly at high speeds, the mileage figures may drop to 40-50 km/l too.Quite a large range of mileage figures,is’nt it?And so this gives the bike the largest range of about 800 kms(think that there are no such things as Boxer or BYK)with the help of that 12 litre tank.Think you cantour on this bike? Please, don’t even think about it.This is neither Eliminator nor Aquila, and I firmly believe that touring long distances(on the highways) with a mere 100 cc bike is a non-sensible thing,At least literates should never do so.
At the end of this revi...I would like to throw a little light on the technical specifications of the Splendor.
