HERO HONDA CBZ

HH CBZ* was the first bike which had engine power above 150 cc in India. It was firstly introduced in the year 1999. Then after the entry of some other bikes equal to it let down its sales. The other bikes which came in the market are Pulsar, Unicorn, Wind and some others. The Hero Honda company re launched this bike in the year 2005 as THE LEGEND REFRESHED. Certainly it is slightly refreshed as well as modified. The body language of the bike has been changed. The stickers have changed. The HH CBZ which I am discussing in this review is the new one. I mean CBZ*.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------

The four factors hmmm same which I considered in my previous reviews. They are Performance, Styling, Comfort, Mileage.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------

Performance of HH CBZ* : ----------------------------------------------------------

The engine of this bike is a 4 stroke, single cylinder, air-cooled and OHC engine. The maximum displacement of this bike is 156.8 cc. The bike has a multi plate wet clutch and it is a manual clutch. The gear box of this bike consists of five gears. The gear shift is a little bit tough for new riders but slowly becomes easy. This bike has only one shift gear. The other bikes have a two shift gear. So if you have to change the gear then the leg should go beneath the gear shift and come up. Some people get ankle pains by this. But in a few lapses it will be adjusted.

The ignition of this bike is electronic. There is no button start to this bike. Normal kick start. This bikes kick rod is very hard and is very difficult to kick. But people have to adjust as there is no button start. The frame of this bike is a tubular single cradle frame. The maximum power of this bike is 12.8 PS @ 8000 rpm. The top speed of this bike according to the HH company is 100 kmph. But I drove this bike at 140 kmph. So the official top speed is 100 where as the ultimate real top speed is 140 kmph. The fuel tank is large and can store up to 12.5 liters which includes 2.5 liters reserve. This is the performance of this bike.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------

Styling of HH CBZ* : -----------------------------------------------------------------

This is a good bike in terms of styling. All the colors introduced in this bike are good. I love the red and orange color. The dual color combination is good. The talk about part in this machine is the newly introduced trapezoidal head lamp. It gives more light that it becomes easy for the rider during the night times. That head lamp is of power 35 watts. I think it is the highest power of the head lamp which a bike has in India.

The fuel tank is huge and is great. The design of the fuel tank is good. The graphics on the fuel tank are great. The tail lamp is also great. The handle bar is also stylish. The entire bike gives a sport bike look. If some what modified by an original sport bike spares then it becomes similar to ZMA. The shape of this bike is good. Not worse like Pulsar and Unicorn. I mean V shape. It is a good flat and comfortable bike.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------

Comfort of HH CBZ* ; ---------------------------------------------------------------

As I earlier said that this bike is a flat and comfortable bike. It has got a look of a original sports bike but the comfort is far better than sports bikes. This is the most comfortable bike in the 150-175 cc segment. The handle bar of this bike is long providing extra comfort. Some bikes like Pulsar and Achiever have short handle and heavy domes which really gives pain to the hands.

The riding becomes difficult during long trips. The seating arrangement is good without any ups and downs. The rear tyre is broad so that it provides the essential road grip a rider wants. The bike is also heavy. It weighs about 138 kilo grams kreb weight. So by that enormous weight we can cleanly observe that this bike is stable even on the worst roads. The ground clearance is also good. Any type of person can ride this bike with out strain. The suspension of this bike is smooth. The front suspension is a Telescopic hydraulic fork suspension. Whereas the rear suspension is a swing arm with hydraulic damper 5 step adjustable suspension.

TPFC named a new feature is introduced in this bike. It means Transient Power Fuel Control. By this feature for quick acceleration while over taking or doing any thing else. Two new meters have been introduced in this bike. They are Tachometer and Trip meter. The Tachometer displays the engine rotation speed. The trip meter measures the distance traveled in a particular trip. So these are the comforts and luxuries of HH CBZ*.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------

Mileage of HH CBZ* : ----------------------------------------------------------------

Being a four stroke single cylinder bike this does not deliver much mileage. The mileage on average city riding conditions is to be 35-40 kilometers per litre. On the highway it gives 45 kilometers per litre.

The reasons for its less mileage are the broad heavy tyre in the back which is broader than Pulsar. The other cause is its heavy weight and so much of mass that it has got. This bike has to be bought not for mileage but for the remaining three factors which I considered.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------

P.S : I had also a plan of buying a CBZ* after selling my Pulsar 180. But I didn’t proceed because this bike is too heavy. RX-100 has the same pick up to that of CBZ* and the mileage is almost same. So I preferred RX-100 over CBZ*.

Hey I am not saying that this bike is not good. This bike is truly a brilliant bike. I prefer this bike over other 150 cc bikes like Pulsar and Achiever. Any people aged above 18 can ride this bike with out any problems.
