Dandruff, just the mere mention of the word sends people out to buy only white and very light colored clothes so those nasty little flakes don’t show up on their shoulders.
Dandruff is believed to be caused by a naturally occurring fungus on the scalp which caused the large dry, oily looking flakes that you see versus the dry scalp that lacks the natural oils and the flakes are very small. Head and Shoulders shampoo does help to clear up real dandruff. How do you know you have real dandruff? You would have to check with a dermatologist for this. Never assume you have it and just set about treating it.
My husband thought for years he had dandruff and we bought the Head and Shoulders on a regular basis, which seems to keep down his problem but wasn’t curing it.
One day he needed a haircut and his regular barber was out of town so he agreed to use my hairdresser and what we were told amazed us.
Richard went through the facts of dandruff and what it is and what causes it and then he told us about shampoos that cause dandruff. If you read the labels of your shampoo you will find some sort of wax-based product in it. That is what gives your hair that full bouncy feeling after use and after time you will also notice that your hair doesn’t feel as clean as it did before so off you go to find something else. You probably just bought another shampoo with a different kind of wax in it. That is one of the reasons that after a few times your hairstyle seems to fall flat and you start having bad hair days.
Richard took a piece of my husband’s hair and scraped his scissors over it to show us that he didn’t have dandruff but a waxy build up on the hair shaft. What came off the hair was a white waxy looking film. He recommended to my husband to let him use a cleansing shampoo on his hair and scalp to remove the years of build up and see what would happen. My husband agreed.
When the treatment was finished, my husbands hair was shinier and a whole lot healthier looking that I remember ever seeing it. Then we were told to buy a good quality shampoo and use that at home with a once a week cleansing shampoo to remove all the build up from the hair. For me it was hairspray and styling gels.
For the last 10 years we have not had to have a dandruff shampoo of any kind in our house. We use a clarifying shampoo like Neutrogena once a week to remove all the build up.
Head and Shoulders seemed to be the culprit for the dandruff problems we were having with the form of wax they use in their shampoos. If you do think you have a dandruff problem get someone that has experience with hair to evaluate and recommend. It might not be that at all.
For dry scalp, use a good hydrating shampoo, drink plenty of water and get the recommended amount of fat into your diet.
