I am an NRI holding NRE and NRO account with HDFC and I had to open a DMAT account.
First they sent a link with some incorrect details, no application form. After informing, they sent right link but they could not be reachable and they do not share any mobile contact only landline. As an NRI, you are not living in India so every time you have to try on landline, which is difficult.
There was no proper explanation about the forms, our relationship manager was also silent and did not play active role. With difficulties we filled the form and submitted.
Followed by very poor response time with standard robot message popping up every time. They wasted almost one month just to give wrong message and understanding. I already have resident card, but they were insisting on VISA on passport. Which country on this earth give VISA on passport and REsident card, so this means they don't have any knowledge. This lady named Kajal Tadani had no knowledge, so she sought her supervisor's view, but her supervisor was even worse. Her supervisor name is Deepa Tejuja and she had never shared her landline contact details and on top of it, she was only refusing to process but through Kajal. Every time I asked Kajal to share Deepa's number so that I can directly talk to her and sort it out, but I was denied. Also all set of documents needed were not asked first time. Slowly and slowly they asked more and more. We already provided Resident copy duly attested by local notary in foriegn country, which they did not believe.
Then wasted more time, then I had to visit Embassy of India and got the passport and work permit attested. But this Deepa neither understood nor was willing to speak, she did not write even a single mail to address the issue, always stayed away. Then they insisted whether I have ration card or something like voter card, I said, this is not India where the country provide 20 evidences to prove that we stay abroad. Resident permit and passport is enough. Then they insisted to give electricity bill and telephone bill. Normally these bills are directly paid by employers and we would not carry, but now they started insisting, as they wanted to just find loop hole. I could fortunately find my mobile bill in my personal name, paid by company so I provided. After second thoughts, they asked for bank statement, which I also provided but these were not asked in first place.
Now I said, let me courier but they insisted NO and they will arrange for courier, so that it wastes more time. But I refused and sent the courier finally. Now after receiving all documents, its more than 45 days, till date they have not given the User ID and Password. I sent 5 mails with reminders after reminders, with no response. I then told my relationship manager, that I will exit my relationship and move to another bank with confidential note to their Directors, then my relationship manager by his personal contacts could get me DP-ID and Client ID, but till now there was no response from securities team.
This is just the beginning and it was my biggest mistake to choose HDFC, even Govt. is better these days.
