This is my about my bad experience with HDFC Bank. And yes, also about Jiomart too. On 2-May-2024, my family member purchased a Noise Smart Watch from Jiomart for Rs.4, 999/- using my HDFC Bank credit card. We were looking forward to the delivery as this smart features had some really good features. The package got delivered on 7-May-2024. As is our habit, we did a video recording when we opened the package. We were in for a shock. When we opened the package, we found out that it was not Noise Smart Watch. It was a GOQii watch. Naturally, we thought it was a mistake on the part of the merchant Jiomart / Reliance Retail. So, we shared our video recording and all the facts. We told them that they had sent the wrong watch. We were deeply frustrated. We requested them to pick up the wrong watch and refund our amount. Though we requested them multiple times, they refused to do so stating that they sent the correct product only. This is despite the video recording which clearly showed they were wrong. We even wrote to Reliance Retail senior management team including Mr.Mukesh Ambani but much to our misfortune, no one cared to resolve the problem positively.
We were almost giving up when we were advised to raise a dispute with HDFC Bank. We did so. We shared all evidence. Fortunately, they agreed with us and told us that the temporary credit provided to us has been made permanent on 20-Aug-2024. We heaved a sigh of relief but a short while later, the nightmare began again. On 9-Sept-2024, we received an email from HDFC Bank Disputes team that they had received valid documents from the merchant basis which our "temporary credit" has been reversed. They were not even aware that it was permanent credit. Also, how in God's name, can a permanent credit, once given, be reversed? Is that not contradictory? This means that HDFC bank's decision can't be trusted ever if they can so casually reverse a credit. The worst part is that they did not even give us an opportunity to counter or provide our inputs to rebut the merchant or clarify to the bank which of course we had done many times in the past. They did not even check their own records that the dispute was already resolved in my favour with a permanent credit on 20-Aug-2024. Their email was full of stupidity and blunders. Of course, whatever it may be, I am the one who is suffering and that is absolutely unacceptable, unforgivable and disgusting!
Further, the documents provided by the merchant are irrelevant. They only relate to the fact that we placed an order, they couriered a package and package was delivered. They had no proof that they couriered the correct watch at all! I never said I did not receive an item from them. Instead, I maintained that I received a wrong item! And I have a video recording while opening the package as proof! Anyway, now we have written to HDFC Bank again. We are super upset as this decision is arbitrary, contradictory and against principles of natural justice! It is also a blunder by the bank. Even if they decide to restore my permanent credit, there is now, no guarantee that these kind of fiascos won't happen again! After all, they came back on 9-Sept-202, after 20 days and reversed my permanent credit given on 20-Aug-2024. My card is an Infinia credit card. I do not know how this issue will get resolved - if in my favour or not but I have decided to close my relationship with HDFC Bank permanently! My "permanent" ironically is not the same "permanent" as theirs. Their permanent is not even permanent. I have been the bank's customer for at least a decade and more. It is disheartening that the bank can treat its longstanding and loyal customers in this manner!
Adios HDFC Bank! You have lost me as a customer permanently! Along with me, my social circle will follow when I share my experience with them!
