HDFC Bank is thief! I had a savings bank account with them for me and my staff. Once I went to UAE and I had a 1 of their card with me though I planned everything well enough but at the last moment when I had to return I had to extend my stay due to some emergency for 1 day and on the immigration check I was asked about the reason and I asked to pay a penalty for extra 1 day stay. They wanted money to be in their native currency and to be paid at a special bank counter.


I went their and the lady officer informed me that I can use their ATM to withdraw the money. I had to pay around 60 USD penalty equivalent in their local currency. I used HDFC international platinum card and took money. I was informed that no markup fees would be deducted when this card is used abroad when I opened the account and took this card. I did not knew anything in background and after paying the penalty came back to India and it was then I found that for that 60$ penalty I had to pay additional 50$ to HDFC in many kind of processing fees they charged and when I reported this issue I found out the it's like mafia.


#1. Phone Banking: Their Phone Banking is always busy and you cannot reach them if you have less time. So you have to spare few hours in order to inform them about your problem because that's the only way you can confirm that you informed your exact concern to them. Prior calling to them I sent them email to which they replied back by answering to a different problem that I didn't reported and next time also same thing happened and then I decided to call them on phone, Phone Banking officer are not prompt and you will not understand how to deal with them. They will listen and could tell you why all these fees were deducted and why which formula or%. They will note down your complaint and inform you that within 48 hours you will get a response. Surprisingly that 48 hours response team is same that attend email questions. So it is all like in circle at HDFC.


#2. ATM Availability: ATM is not readily available and I was informed that as I have got this for all my staff so this card won;t be charged transactions fees if we use it other banks but this didn't happened my staff complaint and when we raised the issue that money came back but you have to to vigilant else they'll deduct it.


#3. Internet Banking: Their internet banking is another mess. I gave them a phone number while opening bank and since the phone provider in India every now and then has some issue I had to switch and portability wasn't there at that time. I was not able to change my number in time and after that this take a very long and awaiting process you have to visit the bank give your document and then wait for 1 day and in my case it took 3 days and their internet banking site is very complex and you cannot find anything without calling them.


#4. Customer Service: Most pathetic customer care they have. They first will not attend your complaints and when you ask them that you want to escalate that matter won't allow you to speak to their seniors.


I genuinely tell you to try different banks and you'll be amazed HDFC is more worse than the notorious Nationalized banks in our country. They are cheater and deducted money and to report it is a problem in itself.
