I couldn’t help it, the hype surrounding the book meant that I had to get one of the first copies in the market. The quickest way to get a hold of a copy in Jalandhar was to order it online. So
sure enough I managed to get the copy 3 days after its release.
Before I discuss the book, I would like to congratulate the marketing team of Bloomsbury for creating such hype surrounding the book, especially the quotes that kept saying that an important character would die. I mean there was no way I couldn’t
have read the book.
Anyway needless to say like all good things in life, the Harry Potter series finally comes to an end. And I guess we will be left reading Artemis Fowl for some time to come (the Artimes Fowl movie
comes out in 2008).
Anyway as always Rowling has written in her simple to read yet interesting style. There is no shortage of well written puns and there is a good feel to the whole book. As promised a lot of pieces of the puzzle fall
together especially with the memories of Severus Snape finally being revealed
in the Pensieve.
What I found disappointing about the book was that there was general disorganization to the book, too many people were coming and going. And what little fun interaction between Ron and Hermoine existed
was not exploited, but I guess when you are trying to say so much without making it sound like the Iliad then there will be some parts that will be missed out.
Without being overtly critical of the book, I think the book was a case of smart marketing and a nifty writing. In fact as time wears on you begin to realise just like a Hindi movie everything will turn
out fine.
And anyway what happens in the end is not that surprising, but I guess we should all believe in happy endings and not to mention the ending is not all that happy either if you consider some of the losses that Harry, Ron and Hermoine experience.
All in all I would give the book a 3.5/5 for readability, 4/5 for packaging and 5/5 for marketing. As always no revealing the plot.
