Harry Potter... it makes you think many things yet firstly it makes you think of a worldwide phenomenon which started with the books. I think making the films so soon after the books were made kind of takes away from them.
I'm a stickler for books, and particularly in gettng the people of tomorrow into reading. Now the attitude seems to be that we'll give up on the books and watch the film instead.
Films are quite (not outrageously) dangerous thing. Films limit the imagination and really are best when the book has been read and thought about. One of my (wise but geeky) friends said that you get a better picture when you read... actually it might have been me. This to some extent is true.
It is good, however, to see that the Lemony Snicket film is coming out quite a bit after the books. I remember reading them when I was a snotty-nosed 12/13 year old and I still pick them up now. They are stunning pieces.
Anyway, back on topic... the Harry Potter films are quite good, the casting brilliant and the way the story is brought to life is ravishing. The soundtrack (which incidentally will have Franz Ferdinand on it next year) fits in perfectly and sets a mood and atmosphere.
The stories are portrayed true and well. Let's hope it doesn't kill the books though...
